From a Truck to a G

Re: From a Truck to a G
I have a lifted 4runner as well as the G coupe and the first thing that you'll notice and have to get used to is how low the car sits as compared to a truck. The visibility of the road ahead is probably going to be a big thing to get used to as you won't be able to see over cars ahead and will have to get used to spacing yourself a little farther back to allow for stopping since you won't be able to see what's happening on the road ahead. Another thing is that it's much easier to get into a truck then the G since it's so low you'll have to bend down instead of stepping up.

<font color=green>Anyone here go from a truck to the G. Well if you did post here about how the transition was, and just some experiences. Well im goin from a 1992 F-150 to my G in hopefully the next month (waiting for 05) and I cant wait.

It's a real change going from a lifted 3/4 ton to the G. Think of it this way from a drive-in window perspective. With the G your looking way up and reaching up to get your (insert your choice of poison here) With the truck your lookng down and reaching basically across or down from the order window.
Does that make any sense?

Re: From a Truck to a G
My work vehicle is a truck. One of the biggest things you'll have to get used to is that side mirrors on trucks are massive, and the G's side mirrors are going to seem inadequate at first.
Drive through windows, drive through bank machines, drive through anything, will be a hassle in the G. Watch out when you get your coffee, I have hit the top of the door with the top of the coffee cup many times and spilled hot liquid on my hands because the car is so low.
Curbs. Watch those curbs, and watch those concrete barriers in parking lots. Typically, with a truck, if you park to close to one, your front just hangs over it. The G will hit it.
When you go shopping, be aware that you have no space for anything. The first week I got my G, I decided to go by a TV, paid for it, and then realized "damn. I'm not driving something right now that can fit this TV." I ended up going home, picking up my work truck, and going back to the store.
Lane changes: I notice, in larger cars, lane changes and merging in heavy rush hour traffic (under 5-10 kph) is much easier. I guess people just notice your vehicle when you're twice as tall, much longer, and much wider than their vehicle.

Gee, you make it sound like it's a Ferrari or a Lamborghini... Getting into my G coupe isn't harder than it was getting into my previous car - a 2000 Nissan Maxima. Same goes for visibility. A G coupe is not that much lower (especially front view wise) than any other car on the road. It is true that a pick up truck sits higher and you have more visibility, but from your description it almost sounds like you went from an 18-wheeler to a Formula 1 racing car.... And before you snap back, yes, I have owned a truck in the past.

Good points speed. I think it's just people who drive trucks are used to the advantages trucks have but if that's what you want in a vehicle then you shouldn't buy the G. I know when I go from driving my wifes Jeep to driving my Honda Prelude, I notice the difference but it's not like I feel like I'm handicapped.
I feel sorry for those people in those long bed trucks when they try to park in parking lots or parallel park. They have to make 8 point turns to turn around. Plus stepping up into into a truck is not my idea of convenient. I see some of these guys who are 5'2" and need a step ladder to get into their truck..........

You'll find that when you turn the wheel, the car will go instead of having to wait for the 5,000 pound beast to move. As to having to back off, you'll find that you stop condiserable faster in your G than ANY truck ever could. You can park it easier. It'll get 18 mpg around town versus 10 - 12. The G has a 20 gallon tank, which is good size for a car. Granted, you won't be able to go over curbs without damage, but who needs a truck for that. We go over curbs in our mini-van and I've done it in most other sedans I've owned too, so big deal.
Ultimately, it boils down to preference. I drove pick-ups for years and enjoyed them for most of the same reasons others do, go over curbs at will (even when illegal), haul anything (still have my '68 just for that reason), sit higher, etc. But, trucks (SUVs) are a plague in the DFW area, and I just wanted to be different and drive something FUN.

Yes, I have many Armenian friends and go to parties all the time here in D.C. and even sometimes in California where they are just everywhere. I have lots of girlfriends that are Armo and literally everyone is drop dead gorgeous. You definitely are a lucky man. I think cause you have Hye in your name it gave it away.

Re: From a Truck to a G
Actually, I've been struggling to heal my back after getting a herniated disk, and when it was feeling significantly worse than it is now, I was driving my pickup instead of the G35.
The car was more cramped to get into, and my leg had a tendency to spasm when I tried to get into the car, ducking my head, etc. The truck was higher, but with the smooth leather seat, i could slide in much easier.
Now, since it has improved, I'm back to normally driving the car.
