Stillen Air Box VS JWT Pop Charger
Stillen Air Box VS JWT Pop Charger
Right now I have the z-tube with a pop charger. I have been reading up on the stillen and with higher temps in the summer(Kansas) I tihnk that my g might loose some power. Do you think I should switch?
You might lose power with the Stillen or pop charger? Pop chargers are known to get heat soak when it's 100+. I have a pop charger, and it's only gotten up to 75 here. And it rarely sees 100+. Stillen is the best choice for areas that get super hot.
Find a Stillen air box and use your Pop Charger. That's what I'm doing because I love the sound of the Pop Charger, But the box on stillen is much better.I live in Missouri and it gets hot here too.
The engine bay is always hotter regardless of how hot it is outside. On freezing days, the pop charger is sucking in warm engine air and missing out on all that freezing outside air. Not as bad at highway speeds though.
Ive got the stillen air box. Sounds great and looks nice too. If heat is your concern what about an injen CAI or something. I know the stillen is cold but there are other intakes that route to colder locations. I got it b/c i felt it was the perfect combo of all intakes, sounds nice, looks sleek and discreet with the gutted airbox and cone filter semi exposed, and it provides good response.
OK, there was a thread where we discussed heat soak, but now this thread is venturing into longer piping...
True CAIs are great intakes, but IMO is less practical for daily driving because the longer piping causes a bit of a lag, although not as bad as heat soak. On colder days, short ram intakes like the POP Charger or the Stillen Cold Air Box can definitely make more power all around, but true cold air intakes literally shifts the power from lower RPMs to high RPMs, with a slight gain up top.
And some will argue the heat soak thing about the roads retaining heat, etc... but either way, the outcome is a shift in the power band.
For daily driving, going from red light to red light, and for some of us, stop and go traffic on the freeways, we need the low end power, as the top end isn't going to do much for us until we're at the tracks where we can mash the hell out of the gas pedal and actually use all 7200 RPMs.
Which intake you get is ultimately your decision, and only you will know if you made the right choice or not for your purposes. But these are just a few things to keep in mind as you're deciding which product to spend your money on.

Ya I have the intake lol that's what this thread is about. If anyone lives in Kansas could they tell me where to go to get a spacer and transgo shift kit installed? I know of MCR but it seems like they specialize more in muscle
Yes, the X02 should add extra power, but will sound EXTREMELY raspy. I added a resonated x-pipe to get rid of the rasp.
When I put the OEM exhaust back on with test pipes, the difference was noticeable. Mid-range and up felt bogged down.
Here's a couple of threads that may help you out.
