Exterior Rubber??

when your rubber on the outside of your car starts to wear or dry out how do you replace it or has any one ever done this??

If so where would you even get it?

If you're referring to the window trim then I'm curious as well...

if it is the window weatherstrip you are wanting to replace, simply pull it straight down and out. it just presses on over the pinch welds of the sheet metal.no glue, or screws or anything.

you should try mothers back to black that should help make it look better, I just use whatever wax I have and just wipe it on and off before it dries and it makes it nice and dark with a slight sheen

Unfortunately it looks like you have to replace the entire rear window as the weather stripping is a "part" of it. I'm having the same problem. I called my dealership and the parts are not cheap. Youre looking at around $1k to get new weather stripping all around. And that back to black stuff does not work very well either (i tried it.)

okay i did this on my BMW 540i when i had it and it did wanders. go out to a home depot or lowes and buy a can of plastidip. remove your weather strips or whatever you want to have refinished. place them on the graound a spray 3 even coats of plastidip on the peices. let them dry and put them back on the car. plastidip is a rubbery material that will cling onto whatever you spray it on and make it look brand new. it is very durable and if it does eventually fade you can remove it with ease.

Wet sanding with fine grit sand paper and then following up with a resorting agent like Mothers Back to Black is the way to go. I will be doing it this weekend or next week and will follow up with a DIY.

^^^This is for the trim around the rear quarter windows that cannot be removed unless you plan on replacing the entire window.
