ECU reflash for breather mods question

Hi all,

I've done some research on the forum, and I am under the impression that breather mods such as MD plenum spacer, z-tube, or CAI will require ECU reflash to avoid running lean/rich.

It seems that getting a reflash will cost about $500-$800.

My question is, if I only go with an aftermarket exhaust, is a ECU reflash needed?

Thanks in advance!

The instructions that come with your MotorDyne spacer recommends you remove the negative side of the battery while doing the install, that all you'll need to do for now. Once you get the CAI and exhaust then you can pick up a few more HP with the Cobb tune....

Yeah I would say do more mods before getting anything tuned.

I just read a bunch of info on cobbtuning.com and the accessport says in like 10 different places that it is not recommended to be used with an intake, exhaust, headers, ect...

then what good is it on a modded car?

Im looking into an ecu reflash as well and was really leaning towards the Uprev. does anyone have experience with both on a modded car? (exhaust, spacer, mrev2, intake + ztube)

I've also read that our ECU can relearn, but to what extent? Does any one have more information about the relearning ability that's built into our ECU?

Intuitively, I would think that a G coupe with all the bolt-on mods is probably too much for the relearning ability of the ECU to handle. So what mods can we bolt-on that is within the ECU relearning capacity?

Thanks for all the responses so far!

uh strongly doubt you have a lawnmower with an ECU.

rain: you can usually do intake and exhaust and the ecu can compensate alright. It won't be the most efficient/powerful but you don't risk the engine. after you do HFC/Testpipes/Headers, port and polish intake/heads, 3" MAF you'll need a tune.

wow youre a fuuuuuckin idiot kid. what do you have against cobb? is it that countless evos and sti's use stage 2's and see good gains out of it? is it that the accessport has so many things built in and could be very useful that you dont like? or is it that for a tune its only 500 instead of twice that going to tune it at some shop?

no youre wrong it says you CAN have the underdrive pulley, high flow cats and a cat back and it will still run good. if you upgrade to the mrev or plenum and put a diff intake on it youll PROB run a lil leaner and that COULD cause engine damage

ANDDD since you have all that stuff done what you would have to do is email cobb and have them run tests in your G and send you back specific maps for your G that will work, it says special maps are used if you add custom stuff like exhaust, intake, and turbos.. so cobb = badass! im buyin one when i get the money!

Cobb and UpRev are very similar in the way they work, only the Cobb uses a controller and the UpRev uses your cruise control controls to toggle through the modes.
