Check Engine Oil
Ok are you talking about the "Oil" light that takes up your whole little screen on your dash? or the tiny icon?
If its the bigger one they just forgot to reset the maintenance reminder. There are like 3 different types of maintenance reminders.... my mechanic sets it to 5000 miles so when it comes on (huge pic of oil thingy) I just take it in.

I would think that more members here would know what do in that situation. Instead of being a##holes, how about giving some useful advice. The REMINDER popped up on my little screen yesterday. I changed my oil today, but the reminder stays on the screen every time I start my car. Just because you change the oil doesn't mean the reminder will go away. You have to reset it. However if the CHECK ENGINE OIL icon comes on, that is bad. Jibberjabbers is quite optomistic. So glad he had some input!!!

Other than replacing this members engine I don't know how more helpful we could have been. Sadly he hasn't followed up with an answer as to why the oil warning came on or what was done about it. I'm 95% sure he's now aware that he should have pulled his dipstick and checked his oil immediately....

I am guessing from what he said its just the maintenance reminder., but if the mechanic did not put the oil back in. Make sure to save the receipts.. when the low oil warning turns on, its already too late.
If the place didn't put oil in it then it wouldn't have taken a week for that indicator to come on. I work at a shop and that **** is so annoying when people accuse you of not changing their oil because of an indicator. It doesn't actually monitor your oil to see if its dirty, it just counts down by mileage.
Engine oil...
a tech told me at the dealer ship that the computer has pre programmed intervals when the car "should" have its oil change so the system does not actually know when the car gets the oil change unless the clear the computer from there end.... thats why it says that, but to be safe check the dip stick and see if your leaking on the ground as well...
"check engine oil" nuff said... =] i joke, is it the lantern looking light thats illuminating? its called oil pressure i believe, and like everyone said, check your dipstick, then check the bottom of your car.
