Re: while my Gs sitting in my garage...
If you are going to use spray paint out of a can, I would recommend a brand called SEM. They make bumper and trim paint. Better automotive paint stores should carry it and it will run you about $10 per can. Make sure you rough up the grill with a scotch brite pad prior to the primer coat to give the primer something to stick too. Remember, the cheaper the paint, the more often you will have to repaint it.

Joey, its as good a paint as you will find in a can. I have used it over the years with good success. The paint is heat tolerant and would be fine on the grill--but not your BBQ grill!. I would not use it on any engine components.

You know, a punch to the gut, sock it in the nose, take it's lunch money... ...that type of thing.
Seriously, he just means making the smooth surface a little more rough so the primer sticks to it better. Use one of those green cleaning pads (ScotchBrite pad) and rub it over every bit as much of the grille surface as possible. You want to it to be covered in fine scratches so the primer can cling to the surface better. With the ScotchBrite pad, the scratches will be shallow enough that the primer and paint will cover them smoothly.
