+18 hp for 2005 coupe

Does anybody know how they got the additional hp to the coupe. Is it from engine management or improved plenum or exhaust?

Revised cams, structural improvements, and other significant changes. We have to wait for a dyno to see how the engine characteristics have changed since the redline is now 7000rpm with a reduction in torque. I'm betting that the 05 will see some improvement in speed regardless of weight increases.

Weight increase?! You mean they were not satisfied on how heavy this car is they just had to add more weight? Nice! So getting the added hp is not really that big of a deal if the coupe is going to get heavier. What the hell was Infiniti thinking when they gave this car bump up from the 03 & 04 models?

Maybe the fact that inifiniti realizes alot of people have complained about the g35's interior and they had to improve the interior. By doing that and adding mp3 playback capabilities the car would get heavier. Thus, the increase in hp to compensate for the extra weight. Im sure its also for marketing issues too, most people dont realize the car is heavier, but almost everyone would know the car is getting a extra 18 horsepower. So more sales for infiniti.

I'm sorry, but I don't see how adding MP3 capability will add too much weight to the car

Unless they are sticking a whole new computer in the trunk to support it.

Of course, there are other places where weight can be added, even if not visible. Sound deadening. I know that, when I bought my car last year, I was surprised at the extra foam, etc, in the trunk compared to the common mid-sized cars I've driven before.

ahh yes, but the massive weight gain from the mp3 decoder chip will easily be outweighed by the fact that you wont have to keep so many of those sandbag like CD's around now that the music is in MP3 format hehehe....just teasing

Another reason for the weight increase could be the larger rims

Re: +18 hp for 2005 coupe

I replaced the radio in my pickup last month with a MP3 capable receiver, since the $248 installed was much cheaper than the new Ford CD changer ($700 quoted by the dealer). I now have more music available on a single MP3 CD (10 hours) than on 6 80 minute CDs in my 2004 (8 hours). But it isn't worth trading in my car with 9700 miles for a 2005 for just the MP3 and key fob.

Generally you get a larger moment of inertia and unsprung weight if you put on larger wheels and brakes. Acceleration will suffer slightly. Braking will be better. Do we know if the overall diameter of the tire and wheel has changed? I have seen in magazines that the Z's HP has not changed. That doesnt make a lot of sense to me. That was really the only thing the Z had on the G to me.
