Problem w/ left wheel/brake/rotor?

Hi guys,

I dunno if I just spotted this problem now or what... but when I was backing out of the gym just an hour ago, I noticed my car would creak/squeak... and it wasn't he car itself it was more like my left rear wheel.

So I stopped the car (I thought I had a flat at first even though there was no bump, it sounded like a flat)... I didn't spot anything visible on the tire... so I get back in and continued ... while the car is just rolling I can hear that sound... at every revolution at the exact same spot..

When I brake, and the car is still moving, I don't hear the sound... when I release the brake and the car continues to move I hear the creak/squeak... at the exact revolution...

Here's the time line of what I've done:

Yesterday--Caliper paint (removal of tires--car jacked up)
Last week--Pop Charger Install
3 Weeks ago--Ztube

Please help TIA

Re: Problem w/ left wheel/brake/rotor?

I had this problem too, I had it in my front left wheel. I am in the caribbean though so service isnt as straight forward as just going to a dealer in the states. I replaced my brake pads with hawk pads and the issue went away. (an easy DIY) I think it was caused by the brake indicator prematurely contacting the rotor. Maybe it wasnt aligned properly in production? Not sure, but I havent had the problem since.

Dennis,

I had a similar problem on my right rear...not sure what it was, but I remember them saying something about the splines...they replaced/fixed the issue under warranty.

Take it in.

I hope so... I just don't want something retarded happening like them saying I caused the problem w/ my "AFTERMARKET" modding of the calipers and then voiding my whole warranty!!! =(

Anybody work for Infiniti (or any other dealership) that can chime in?

Re: Problem w/ left wheel/brake/rotor?

Dennis,

Did you get any brake cleaner on your rotors when you were prepping the calipers? Also, if you did not take off the calipers when you painted them ANYONE can tell this by looking at your paint job. If you took off the calipers you would have painted them on all sides: top, bottom, left, right, front and BACK. Odds are you didn't paint the backs because you couldn't get to them. I wouldn't worry about warranty issues, I'd try asking others about using a degreaser (DON'T PUT ANYTHING ON YOUR ROTORS UNTIL SOMEONE CHIMES IN WITH A GOOD PRODUCT) or something of the like...

My bet is overspray from the brake cleaner got on one of your rotors and is causing the noise you're hearing. Get this off and your problem MIGHT go away.

Re: Problem w/ left wheel/brake/rotor?

Hey Todd,

Thanks for chiming in! I was thinking just that too and I will get the dealer's recommendation today--however I didn't spray on the paint... hehe, I sprayed into a cup and painted w/ a brush =)

But I can still see how maybe a splash here and there or a run might have caused this also.

Thanks

JMO........
The problem you describe will have nothing to do with solvent or
paint. The solvent (brake cleaner) evaporates and the paint would come off with the first application of the brakes.
I think this likely to be mechanical in nature.

You might try checking the heat shield.
It's possible that you bent it a little and it is rubbing on one spot

Re: Problem w/ left wheel/brake/rotor?

Dennis,

I'm aware of the 2 part paint expoxy brush on application of the G2 kit, as I've used it before on my old Honda. I was just wondering if you might have over sprayed the brake cleaner onto the rotor and not wiped all of it off. Apparently this isn't a problem as I just read inTgr8r's post... Good Luck!
