G35 Coupe Tires

I have a 2004 G35 coupe was wondering if anyone else out there is having problems with excessive noise from their tires??? Dealers are saying it's the soft tires that cause the wear and cuping sound they say it's common with the coupes.. Telling me I would need to replace them.. ONLY have 11,000 MILES!

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

If you have the Michelin Pilot Sport tires, it's not surprising. You'll find that there is no mileage warranty on them. Mileage on these tires can vary from as low as 12k up to as high as 24k miles. They are a very soft compound that will wear quickly if driven aggresively or on rougher roads. Most all tires get noisier as they wear, even quality touring tires. Once they wear out, you'll obviously have to make choices such as replacement tires and possibly how you drive. If you go harder compound, they will last longer, but with less performance capabilities. What you'll likely find, is no manufacture puts a treadwear warranty on ultra high performance tires.

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

I have 20K on my tires and my back tires have about 2 or 3 K left on them. My front tires have about 10K left but they are noisy. My rear tires are quiet. This is partly because my alignment was off son my front end- the camber was off on both sides by about the same degree. hmmmm- I am sure however that this was not a "factory" defect.. oh no... Nissan/Infiniti would never make an error like that.

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

I have an '03 coupe with about 16K miles on the pilot sports. They have been getting very noisey for about the last 2K miles. I know these ultra high perf. wear fast. The noise is worst at about 30 mph and while braking from that speed. It is what they are calling "tire roar" on the 350Z.

I have noticed that on the 350Z there have been issues with tires wearing out to fast, and Nissan has acknowledged a problem, and has been changing alignment specs. and replacing tires for people for free. Now, as I understand it the G has the same suspension as the Z.. But Infiniti has not acknowledged any similar problems.

Does anyone know anything about this? Should we be getitng the same deal as the 350Z owners?????

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

I complained at 10k......noise is unbearable!!!! i filed a claim and got the same response from Infiniti and the dealership here. "take them to get warrantied"

I would expect that from Honda or Toyota

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

if you don't like tire noise, do not get a high performance car. or like some one mention you can always get harder compound tires and just drive the car for looks instead of performance. i know i will get a lot of flames from this...lol. sorry guys, just stating the fact. i am sure there are quiter tires out there with maybe the same performance. as far as wear, well soft compound will always wear a lot faster. that is the way it is, i think it is not fair trying to get the factory to replace the tires just because they are hight perf tires. by the way i have 19000 miles on mine and it has been on the road race course track twice. i think they still have at least 2000 more miles left on them. please keep the tire pressure in check. low pressure will cause premature wear also. one more thing, i did swap my rear tires (dissmount and remount left to right and v/v). without doing this the rear probably will be bald on the inner side by 15000 miles.

limanb:
Your points are well taken however there is a possibility that the car has problem - "Where there is smoke there is fire." Check out the post today on the coupe forum at 6MT.net. There is a class action law suit involving the Z's for these same issues and apparently some Infiniti dealers are replacing tires - even though Infiniti Customer Serv. won't acknowledge it.
In the case of my car - I always keep the psi at 35 and do only normal street driving. The tires are not really worn that much, but the fronts have been very noisey since 14K miles- the same issue as in the Z class action suite.

Total Stealership BS. When I get a droning hum on the hiway at 60 mph, that's crazy at 5k miles on a 5AT with 17" Goodyear RSA [censored] tires.

Me at Infiniti Dealer-"I'm doubleparked in my Gc,I need some brochures." As I walk out, they ask if I bought my car there. I respond, "I tried to, unfortunately!!"

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

The recall on the "Z" was due to alignment problem on the first few shipments. You will know if you had that problem, because the front tires would be balding/cupping at around 5000 miles. Nissan replaced those cars front tires for free and fix the alignment. The complains that posted on this post, seem to me like normal wear and tear on high perf tires on high perf cars. Then again I could be wrong. My opinion only based on my own car and the fact that I don't mind a little noise for performance.

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

Here is my 2 cents. I have 12,500 miles on my coupe and my front tires need to be replaced. They have feathered on the inside of the tire only. They are terribly loud and Infiniti says they should be rotated - can't with 18s. They then said "should have been" dismounted and rotated from my first dealer. My first dealer is having a mechanics strike so I took it to another dealer. They say it is the because they are high performance tires and need to be replaced. So you say it is because they are high performance tires that they wear like this? NO WAY! It has to be an alignment issue.

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

There might be an alignment issue, but since when did that require class action lawsuits? No one but the lawyers win in a class action suit. Dealers are out fines and penalties, the owners might get a part replaced or adjusted, and the future owners get to pay a higher price for their next car.

Simple math that most ignorant folk don't seem to get. Like suing the insurance company. Then the same people complain that insurance is too high!

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

Blue,

I didn't say anything about lawsuits, I know others did. Why can't Infiniti check the alignment or notify the dealers to recheck the alignment on the first oil change and fix the problem. Costly for Infiniti I agree, but the cost of 2 tires is more expensive than to alignment.

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

14K, noise is outrageous. Sounds like a freakin' train at or below 30MPH. Cupping caused by the inability to rotate offset and directional tires is what 3 tire shops have all told me. A friend at work who does some recreational racing and lives for cars told me the same thing. I'm not blaming anyone but myself, but I wish I had known this would be a problem prior to buying the 18's.

Re: G35 Coupe Tires

I just posted yesterday about the same thing... One dealer tells me to turn up the stereo so I don't have to hear the ROARING sound my tires are making OR replace the tires.. I ONLY have 11,000 k on them... The thumping sound sucks wonder if everyone else hears it too... Love the looks of the car BUT tires SUCK ~ wish I would have been informed of this..
