weird light problem

Hey all, i have an odd issue i can't seem to figure out.

i have an 03 coupe with 06 headlights, when my headlights are turned off my gauge cluster lights up, but when i turn the headlights on the gauge cluster dims out? kinda tough to drive at night with my gauge cluster black :/

it never used to be like this until i got it back from my shop who took off the headlights to repaint the car, any ideas?

look to the left of your steering wheel. there's a control there for your cluster light brightness. when you turn your headlights on it dims your cluster lights cause its assuming youre driving at night. spin the cluster light control all the way up to have max brightness.

It could be the problem stated above, or, I noticed when I first got my car I was actually turning the key too far forward to the point where the car started but the sensor for the dash lights was being bypassed. Trying being more gentle when turning the key (if the dimmer wasn't the problem). I came from an old 300zx and was a little over zealous with the ignition I guess lol. I have an 03 with 06 headlights too but I don't *think* it has to do with that - probably the dimmer or what I said.

nope it wasn't the dimmer, i fixed it but it could have been one of two issues.

while the car was off i reseated the headlight connections and replaced an iffy looking fuse, it was one of those two things, just cant tell ou which one since i performed both at the same time
