Window goes 1/4 way up ....then down - help
Window goes 1/4 way up ....then down - help
couple of days ago, I've started experiencing problems with my driver side window.
When I try to roll it up it goes about 1/4 of the way and then just rolls down again as if the anti-pinch
feature is kicking in. I know it's impossible, as the anti-pinch feature will kick-in only when the window
reaches the top.
The only thing I can imagine that's causing it, is the KPtecnologies window roll up chip. - For anyone who's not
familiar with it, there is an aftermarket chip that enables you to roll up the windows via the OEM fob.
But this chip was installed almost 2 months ago and I haven't had a single problem with it. Not to mention the fact
that my passenger side window is working.
This problem is not persistent but rather interment.
I also noticed that when it happens, there is a noticeable slowness in the motion as if the window is powered by a battery that's about to die...
Could the roll back (down) is happening because there is something that's obstructing the window (slowness)? - but then again, the slowness is
not always there, it slows only on those accessions when the window gets stuck...
Help please...

doh, I posted to your other thread, guess I was way off... well I have no idea how the install works for this chip module, but my guess is that it can be reversed to look fairly untouched...

Yup, it's the motor. My passenger side window has this same problem. It was intermittent....until two weeks ago when I had the window rolled down (completely) and I was unable to roll it up.
When I took it to the dealership, they said one of the parts (the regulator??) was on back order. So, I'm waiting for it to arrive.

They CAN NOT deny the warranty unless the chip was actually the cause of the failure. I just had my window motor replaced under warranty as it was rolling down after it would reach the top if I used the auto-roll-up function.
Re: Window goes 1/4 way up ....then down - help
Mine did the same thing two weeks ago, when I shut the door, the window did its roll up thing, then went down 1/4 of the way and stopped......
I was able to raise the window enough so it was closed, but it did not go up that extra 1/4 inch...
They replaced the motor, and I swear this motor doesn't lower the window as much when you open the door....
Time will tell, but I bet I will be replacing the motor again first cold frozen winter day......

Re: Window goes 1/4 way up ....then down - help
I sent you an Email regarding this, but I'll post it in the forum also.
The anti-pinch system uses an encoder wheel that spins as the window moves. There is a digital pickup that reads the encoded signal and it can calculate the actual speed of your window. The BCM has an acceptable minimum speed value that the window must maintain, otherwise the BCM 'thinks' that there is an obstacle in the way. As the motor starts to fail, it slows down, and cannot move the window fast enough to satisfy the BCM, so the BCM thinks the window is smashing something, so it reverses it. Once the window reaches the very top of travel there is a limit switch that lets the encoder system know that it is at the top, and not hitting something.
Our KPtechnologies module does not actually interface with the power window motor, so there is NO way it can cause the window motor to fail. Our module communicates digitally directly with the BCM, and the BCM takes care of controlling the window (so that the anti pinch system still works). KPtechnologies is willing and able to assist in ANY warranty denials that may pertain to one of our products. We can provide schematics and other technical information to show that our module is 100% compatible with the G35 and other Nissan vehicles.
Let me know if you have any other questions or need any additional help,
Kevin

Re: Window goes 1/4 way up ....then down - help
I am having a similar problem with my driver side window also. Occasionaly when I use the auto up feature the window goes all the way up and then drops a few inches and stays there. It takes me a few tries to get the window to stay up. And of course it worked perfectly when I took it to the dealer.

Thanks everyone for your replies - really appreciate it.
I'll take it to my dealer next weekend.
King hard to reverse the install as the wire tappers already cut through the stock ones. I'll have to remove the tappers, twist the wires together, and then tape them - no way they won't see it...

solder + heat shrink tubing is pretty damn hard to see, esp if the heat shrink is the same color as the original wire.
