Seat rip replacement outside of warranty?

Hey guys, I'm a new member here and recently picked up an 05 coupe 6 MT. My driver's side seat has a minor tear on the bottom left, which I found a TSB for. The warranty that covers this type of damage has expired, but I've read that if you can show that the problem occurred or began while the vehicle was under warranty, that you could possibly still have it fixed for free. Has anyone had any luck with this? If not, if anyone is in the Gainesville or Tampa Bay area, does anyone know of a good reupholstering shop to hit up? Thanks and hello to everyone out there =)

Good luck with getting the dealer to fix it for free. I tried back in 2006 when I G was a little over a year old, and they told me that don't replace seats after 12 mouths.

Call the infinity customer service number on the tech bulletin. They will give you a reference number for you to take it into the dealership for evaluation. They covered it last year on an 05 I bought. Just be very nice and tell them you want a G37 next year. Good luck.

No kidding Infinity has acknowledged it has a known design flaw in the seat. If you approach the customer sat dept with the right attitude, you will get it replaced for free. I did with very little problems even though the car was out of warranty. Being polite and stressing that you are a loyal infinity customer can definately help.

Sorry, the G37 comment was a joke. I apologize if it added confusion to the recommendation.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for the suggestions! I guess it couldn't hurt to try...the worse they can say is no and I've read quite a few good things about the Infiniti dealership in my local area so I'll see how it goes. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to shell out the $250-300 that all the shops seem to want to charge =/

My seat started with a super small tear and ended huge. I hated to see the tear but thankfully I took it to a local upholstery shop and they did a great job! Now you cannot tell that tear ever happened and this was less than $100. I believe the fix should not be much regardless where you live as the part that tears is made of vinyl not leather. I loved the job so much that I am having my QX56 driver side seat replaced from vinyl to leather at the same shop. Take care and if you want pictures let me know.

Here are a few pictures of after the fixing. The guy who did the work does all work for the local dealerships so I knew he was good.

No rip, but had the dealer replace the vinyl just because it was starting to crack. In addition, I got the seat bolster replaced for the 2nd time ($500 part). The bolsters always collapse as the driver's side left side bottom gets very lose. My car is going on 8 years old but I've been very lucky with service. Net cost for repairs....$0.00

A good upholstry shop can repair the seat for a reasonable price. I've seen so many of our seats looking like crap due to the bolster collapsing as well as the vinyl tearing. Fit and finish has not been a strong point for the Infiniti line.
