Winter tires

Hi guys,

I have a 2005 g35 2sr coupe. Now i'm pretty sure I just have the base model.

Now I still lived at home last winter so i was able to put it away for the winter. I now have my own house and don't have the luxury of putting it away and driving my parents cars. I need tires badly as we do get quite a bit of snow where I live.

Most placed that i've seen are asking like $400 per tire for snows.

So i found a set that was only used for 1 winter, look in good shape and the guy wants $500 total, 4 tires no rims, 1 winter season on them.

Sizes;
225/45/R19
245/40R19

Will these fit my car first of all and secondly since I didn't drive it last year, will winters even make a difference or is this car really not meant to be driven in the snow. Thanks for youe help!

Yes they will fit if you have the 19" sport wheels (pictured below) since they are the OEM size for this rim and yes they will help a lot for winter driving.

Yup, you're good to go. Just take them to a reputable shop, don't let some ham-handed shop monkey scuff them all up for ya! Better yet, if you can swing it, get a spare set of less-worthy wheels to bash through the winter.

If at all possible, I would suggest to come down a size. Look around and see if you can find 17" or 18" rim/tire combos in a 5x114.3 bolt pattern. Used is perfectly fine.

While having winter tires is better than all seasons (or summers clearly), coming down from a 19" will be beneficial and saves your forged rims from gravel and salt on the roads.

Don't forget a staggered setup for the vdc to be happy

Thanks guys.

Oh im definitely getting another set of rims for sure.

I've priced out 4 rims + tires and im looking at like 1500$ as the cheapeast deal.

Most places here want like $400 per tire for snows so i figured a set that was used for 1 winter for 500 is a good deal even if i do have to go buy some other rims.

Have you tried tirerack.com? I bought a set of winter wheels/tires from them several years ago, and I don't remember them being that expensive. Try giving them a call.

ever consider going down to 17s??? 19s seem lil too much for winter especially with those random potholes that comes up....tires might come out maybe cheaper too....got my rims+tires for like 1100 last season

Buy a beater as save your car. I have a oem 19 n was considering oem 17 with winter tires, but the price tires and wheels was to much so i bought a beater. I only drive my G on sunny days.
Now i can save for more parts.

get 17's or 18's at the biggest, don't spend to much on the rim. Bridgestone Blizzacks are amazing and there reasonably priced. I have Bridgestone blizzack 235/50/R17 in the back and 225/50/R17 in the front, when i change these tires out i'm going to go to a bigger sidewall (60) and probably 235's on both to give me more height (clearance). This will make the tires just over 1 inch bigger diameter wise, which is 1/2" radius increase so my ride height will be 1/2" higher.

I would suggest doing the same, obviously the car will handle a little differently but its better then bottoming out everywhere, 4 inches snow and were screwed, but hopefully with the bigger tires i can do 4 inches of snow and be fine, thats the cut off for people going out in winter for the most part anyways, so if I say i will be late because of snow they don't question it.
