G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)

Wondering what you guys think. I have a new 6 speed G35 coupe. Last car was a 2001 Audi S4 (have owned both an automatic and a manual from the same model year). I am convinced that the G35 would outperform the S. Regardless of the performance numbers, it seemed like it always took time for the S to get going. I think the G35 would easily beat the S from 0-60, acceleration at higher speeds might be about equal, but the G35 would also have an edge in handling. Any comments?

I disagree. The TT S4 would spank a NA G...now, whether it would give a SC G a challenge? We'll see.

Wanna see mine?

By NA and SC, I assume you mean automatic and sport coupe, respectively. I got the sport coupe (280hp/270lb-ft).

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)

i ran with a completely stock 2003 S4 automatic. He's my neighbor and wanted to see how his car compared to my sedan. We had 3 runs all from 20-100, and everytime i was ahead of him by over a car length. If his car was a manual i think it would be dead nuts even. But with the slushbox automatic from audi, the G was the clear winner. I have a video of the race i'll dig it up and post on another G site.

My friend has an Audi A6 2.7T and from a stop, he takes me til like 100 or so...damn i hate AWD's. However from a roll, I always start walking. I swear though...i think his car is overboosting a little cause I barely walk him. And before anyone says anything, no im not a newbie shifter. heh

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)

yes they were bi-turbo V6 S4s... A4s are not even a worth racin... trust me, stock, the old S4a are not fast...

the one w/ sport ecu, exhaust, intake, rims, springs... like i said, i was flooring, shifting at red line... couldnt pull away until end of 3rd gear.. (around 88 mph) but after that, it was bye bye~ haha!

I disagree Randy, I ran with a Bi turbo S4 on the street and highway...it must have been stock because I pulled on him..he wouldnt look at me at the next light..perhaps in shame?...Also, when he started to chase me on the freeway...he flew by me...and i would gain on him at full throttle...so...I dunno...

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)

Randy, a B5 or B6 i forgot which it is, older model TT V6 audi S4, is similar to a 6speed coupe in performance but the G35 def. has the edge over it, but modded is a whole different story! Now, you can put $2k worth of bolt ons onto a G35 and it still wont come close to a Biturbo S4 with just a AWE tuning chip or something like that, those chips easily give the S4 a 60+ HP bump and a 70+ lb ft of torque bump up for like 5$500, those cars are NO JOKE, and once you get into turbo upgrades (RS4 engine upgrade) with factor RS4 parts from Europe those cars are easily putting out 450-600 HP and about the same of torque, for about uhhmm a couple of grand?

This guy here in NY LIM worked on just Audis/VW's and i learned so much from him, he did minor things to my car because i was cool with him, he usually doesnt touch any other cars but he hooked me up, but then his shop moved so i havent seen him since! But anyway stock to stock check out this little comparo, fully modded a G35 coupe with FI and a fully modded S4, i think the S4 will still eat up a G35 with ease, an S4 with just a RS4 turbo upgrade with chip, exhaust and a few other bolt ons will run high 11's all day long with ease! Check this out =)

Here ya go, wow i was actually way off on the chip #'s, now that is SICK, check this out....

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)

Hmm, you mean normally aspirated versus supercharged. Either one of these cars can be seriously modified, which will certainly change things. But I'm talking stock. The S never impressed me as far as performance is concerned. I think it could be the fact that it has a relatively small V-6 and depends on the turbos for boost. I certainly enjoy driving a big normally aspirated V-6 over a small turbocharged V-6. One thing I'm certain about is handling. The S has a higher center of gravity, and it's very apparent. The G35 is better in corners than the S, that's for sure.

I meant stock to stock for the first part of my last post, look at the comparison, they are very similar and from a roll or on the highway stock the G will pull, but its close!

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)

stock for stock, the G should win. Even in handling...unless the pavement is wet, the G should have a small edge over the S4. However, as all other turbo'd cars are, small mods will easily put them over our cars.

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)

I played with a stock TT S4 on the highway. While I can't speak to what a launch comparison would be between the two, it was no contest above 60 mph. We had a few go's from various speeds and despite the fact that I'm driving an AT, he was in the rearview every time, even given the fact that I let him make the jump every time. The new V8 would be a different story.

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)

Yea, i took the new V8 S4 by a bumper till about 100, my car was running sick that night, i dunno what it was.. Most common question asked to me after a race or someone hears my car. "Damm that's fast, you are def. modded, you have a turbo kit in it? Sounds sick" Im like hahaha i wish!! But it was def. a fluke, i pulled on him during his either 3-4th shift or 4th-5th i couldnt really tell, thats where the auto had the advantage but he was pulling hard after i had that bumper on him, but when we shut it down it was a steady bumper, i dont expect it to happen ever again LOL and it was from 40mph, not a dead stop, im not crazy =)

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)

stock vs stock, our cars are faster. raced many of them same result. there was one w/ simple mods, like, intake, exhaust, CF hood, rims, sport ECU... we were dead even until end of 3rd gear (i have 5AT)... i started to pull away after that...

if i was looking for an used car, i def would get the bi-turbo V6 S4...

the new S4s, they cant hadle for sh*t... they will smoke us pretty bad tho! haha
