Article is legit - I've read it before on one of the Nissan news sites... the picture, believe it or not, is also real... what better camouflage than the shell of a car that's already out? If you look closely, you'll see the bulging fenders and slightly discolored paint - this thing has actually been spotted doing warm weather testing in Mexico recently... people look at it and think it's just a modified G, when really the next world-beating supercar lays under that shell...

Whatever doubts you have about this car - forgot about them... this will be the end-all to sports cars... guaranteed...

agreed...def. legit. I've been following this story for a long time. '07 is a confirmed release. Powertrain is a juiced up VQ most likely w/turbos. President of Nissan said "We will never put a V8 option in the GT-R. When we can get 1000hp out of a 6, it just doesn't make sense." As for the price tag, last word was low 70's. Finally, the platform will be exactly the same, but it will look quite different on the outside. just my 2 cents. I'm hoping it does come under the Infiniti label, then I'd get a discount.

This may be Photoshop (who knows), but I thought the article clearly said: "A prototype caught testing on Germany's grueling Nurburgring test track made the rounds WEARING THE SHELL OF A CURRENT G35, but obvious signs of serious modifications indicate it was no ordinary Infiniti." It looks like the test model was just masked as a G35 because they likely share the same platform. For those interested, there is an article on page 54 of the August 2004 "Road & Track" (the one with "long-nose" JGTC 350Z on the cover) talking about the 2007 GT-R and it has a what looks like a production model's picture - I will try to post it if I can figure it out (I am new to this forum). You can zoom in to read the text, but basically it says that Lotus will design suspension and steering and Cosworth will design the engine (planned to be based on Nissan's VQ powerplant giving off approx. 450 hp in a turbocharged 6 cylinder configuration).

Can't attach the JPEG with pic and article... I select the file to attach, press Continue and get a "The page cannot be displayed" message. Any suggestions? It may be the size of it - I will try to reduce it. Gimme a few minutes.

I saw a picture of the GT-R test car in a JDM car magazine awhile back. It looked like a G35C with huge fender bulge. I have no doubt they are still developing the product, my only concern is the weight.

G35C = 3500lbs + turbo + AWD + HIACS + structural support and we are looking at something close to 4000lbs. Obviously lightweight material will be used to save weight, but I really doubt the weight will be lighter than the G35C.

Oh C'mon no disrespect but are you blind... This is clearly a Photoshop. The buldgig fender looks discolored because it is a photoshop. I'm not saying that there will NOT be a GTR but this picture is a fake. The lighting is different for the areas that were photoshoped.

From what I've read, the GT-R isn't going to use the 350GT/G35 platform. Can't recall the platform of choice, but it's not the G.

'05 IP(or ?) 6MT... ...Never too soon to think about modifications!!

Yes, to upload a pic, it must be <100 KB. if you have a server to host the picture, then you can link to it.

This same topic came up a month ago. I think I read it in C&D mag or something, but that is a GT-R test mule using a G35 body as disguise for right now.

This is how rumors get started and spread so quickly.

The GT-R is going to be based on the R36 platform.
As coincidentally the timeline for our current R35 platform ends around 07/08.
They are skipping a generation of skylines.
They want the difference from the GT-R R34 to the R36 to be like night and day.

I dont think we'll be disappointed.
