First oil filter change and a question

I always change my own oil. It's nothing to do with cost, but everything to seeing for myself that it's done to my satisfaction.
Anyway, I usually buy Fram oil filters, and noticed a strange difference between the CarQuest one that was on there and my Fram.
From the sealing surface to threads, it looks to have a slight difference, unless it's an illusion(I should have measured it).

Sounds more like an observation than a question, lol. I wouldn't use Fram filters anyways, get a Wix filter.

Well, sorry that I didn't state the obvious.

Question: Which filter looks more like the Original Nissan filter ......Geeze lol

As for WIX? don't know where I would even get one locally, but I have cut open a Fram and an original Honda filter before and they are EXACTLY the same. That tells me that they meet the Mfg standards of the particular Honda engineering.

Purolator, Bosch K&N or M1 can be found locally. and do not have cardboard endcaps that degrade and mixes into your oil...

people have found unglued pleats, and or pieces just laying on the bottom of the filter when opening them.

yeaaaahhh i wouldn't use fram either. I use either mobile 1 or k&n though they are the same internally based off of the old champion labs design.

Check out this nice page concerning all the different filter types.

LOL I am impressed with the particularity of the v35 owners. I wil do further research on this, and thanks for the input.

I tend to obsess on maint as I am an aircraft mech for an airline. I want the best for my 3.5, and when I find the right stuff, that's what I will go with.

Thanks for the input.

Oil filters....if you don't have a autoparts store around you order quality filters on line. I get my K&N HP 1010 filters with free shipping cause I buy 3 at a time. I'm sure if you want to use WIX you could Google and find the same kinda deal or close. I used Fram filters a long time ago then realized why use quality synthetic oil and poor quality filters, that what Fram has become....sadly.

Oddly enough..Being a 47 year old mechanic. I have never had engine problems relating to HOC from engine wear. I have always used Fram. Why have I used Fram? Simply because they are easily obtained, and as I have stated, they have the same internals as the stock units.
I'm thinking I wish I hadn't mentioned this thread lol.

Fram and Nissan filters uses cardboard endcaps. Obviously they are confident that the filters are fine.

When I changed my oil, I used the PureOne filters by purelator. But the next 2 years, it will all be done by Infiniti. Maybe I'll bring in my own filters.

To answer ur question, the CarQuest one looks closes to the Nissan filters. I think the Nissan filter also has less holes around the rim.
