I've opened stock and fram to compare. They are equivalent in quality.

I could feel a little stress in the previous posts....^....fact is everyone has their favorite oil filter or what they think is the best. In reality there is no one correct answer with the exception that Fram filters quality is in the crapper. As long as we spend that big $$ for synthetic oil it's only logical to buy quality filters....

Just because its stock doesnt mean its good. It just means it was the cheapest filter they could go with mass produced.

I've never really tried it there, but something to consider.

The reason people bash most Frams (mainly the Extra Guard, Orange Can) is that for the $ you can do much better.

However, the Tough Guard is a decent filter for about $5 at walmart, better and more filter media and silicone ADBV -

The Extended Guard is actually an excellent filter - built like a tank, excellent for extended drains with lots of dirt capacity! Thats about $8 at Walmart, use the 7317 size.

Key note: don't obsess over this. Fram hasn't been in business for so many years due to destroying engines. Most people who are obsessing over filters and oil, only keep the car for three years anyway. I keep them for ten plus, and never have HOC issues. Knock your self out.

........you're batting a 1K, you won't buy quality filters and don't use synthetic oil in you G35. That shows very little respect for what you drive! Quality products keep your engine happy, if you take care of them they'll do the same for you. All things mechanical have feelings too! If you're not connected to your coupe you won't understand any of this....sorry!

Thank you. In my experience the Frams are the worst when cut open vs. Mobile 1 (for example).

I wouldnt run Fram on my lawnmower let alone my G..

LOL! at some of this thread, i hear the "i only use fully synthetic oil" all the time, people seem to think you can only get good wear protection from synthetic oil, not true, the only reason fully synthetic oil is used/advised is due to longevity, it simply lasts longer between services, much like using iridium plugs, its no better, its just longer lasting.

You only have to look at modern service intervals, and then check the recommended oil, i have only ever used semi synthetic oil, and pattern filters, and that included a 350BHP Nissan S14, a Toyota Supra tuned to 530BHP, with no problem, i even had it analyzed, and the results where very good, if i tracked either of them i would have probably used a better speced oil, and it wouldn't necessarily be fully synthetic, just better spec.

OK its all down to individual preferences, but remember you can still suffer engine lubrication problems using fully synthetic oil and the best filters, and its usually down to unsympathetic driving styles, or bad maintenance.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I think synthetic oil is great if you want to go a long time between oil changes(not a fan of this), or need winter diesel startup performance. However, I like to change my oil every 3K, and look around under there while I'm inspecting (is that being in touch with my coupe as some say lol?) Some lazy coupe owners don't even do their own oil changes. Guess it's too DIRTY for them! Anyway, I've been in the business of high performance maint for over 30 years, and trust me....if your car is an every day driver, and you're NOT abusing it...the synth/mineral mix is just fine. I have never heard or seen any adverse results from using a Fram, when installed correctly either. YES, you could make an oil filter for a passenger car to "Aircraft Quality" Specs. for your daily drive, or your pretend race car driving, but in the end, it's just a "feel Good Experience" as the Fram will filter what you need to filter, and bypass when necessary.

Drive Safe,
And

Have fun with it!!!

I hope an expert can chime in BUTT, according to my mechanic, longer intervals between oil changes is NOT the rason to use synthetic.
He has stated more than once than car engines make oil boil at extremely high temperatures. Synthetic oil leaves less gunk that gets attached to the inside walls of the engine. Therefore, providing us with a cleaner engine that will run smoothly over time with less gunk.

The only time that oil is ever likely to "Boil" is in the lubricated core of a turbocharger if its not left to run on after using the turbo for an extended period, so i think your mechanic needs to do a little reading

Any engine that regularly sees temperature's of over 120c should have an oil cooler fitted, and it takes a fair bit more than that to boil it, most modern oils whether mineral of synthetic will take that as a maximum safe temp, and this is due to it component additive's rather than its base make up.

An average engine temp for most cars will be around 98-100C and if the engine design is know to run hot IE turbocharged/supercharged, it will have a factory fitted oil cooler anyway, and that besides the obligatory water oil cooler.
