Air Filter

I have 2007 G35 Coupe and just hit 41k, I was looking at a new air filter for the engine and had previously had a K&N on my Mustang and had no issues. The guys at the dealership say no and recommend against it but never gave me a definitive answer. So my question is if I was to install one would it a) harm the engine in anyway? and b) what would I gain from the install? (i.e., better gas mileage, performance)

Thanks,
Neal

Hey Tneal15 the stealership wants your pennies. Well I mean Benjamin's. Go with K&N, also a quick search would have answered your question in a matter of seconds.

a.)no
b.)MAybe some small gains, but not much.

Amsoil EA Nanofiber filter.

Don't get a K&N... they let a ton of dirt by. I had one on my G35 for about 2 oil changes worth of time, and everytime I'd check my air filter, there would be dust on the clean side of the intake pipe and my oil seemed to be noticeably dirtier than usual during oil changes. Since switching to an Amsoil EA Nanofiber filter, that trend has no longer continued.

The stealership wouldn't be saying "NO" to K&N filters if they were selling them. K&N filters are great, clean them every second oil change and they're good for life....

If I had it to do over, I'd go with this -- a dry filter is just less hassle, especially since the K&N on my Stillen CAI is a proper beech to get off and back on for cleaning.

Been using the Amsoil EA for years. My UOA's prove it's a much better filter than when I used to run with oil/cottons. And yes I know how to charge oil/cotton filters correctly.

With all the mods you have Swivel why would you consider removal/cleaning the K&N filter difficult? It might take more time living in the frozen north but if you're organized it's super simple. When I was using mine it only took me an hour to do it right, that's pretty good considering my OCD about mechanics....
