Need advice on time and cost of repairs for fan shroud and raise resting idle.

First, my fan shroud is broken. The plastic casing has cracked and the whole thing is leaning forward. So, I just purchased a new fan shroud. How much time does it take to install? Links to videos of this being done?

Second, I need to up the resting idle of 550 rpms to 880-920 rpms. This will make my twin disk clutch not rattle and make getting out of 1st easier for all the mechanics who drive my car and stall out. The best part is 900 rpms at rest will make the V-3 vortech supercharger sound like a jet at all times. So how do you raise the rpms? Video available? How much time will a mechanic take so I can estimate the cost.

I could be wrong and someone can correct me but to change your idle i think you need a computer to do that. There is a connector under your dashboard that you can plug in but i don't have that program to do that. I know how to change it on an Acura which the idle adjustment is in your face but so far haven't seen it on the G's.

Well, I will try to take my G35 in tomorrow. I have to go to a BMW service garage in Reisterstown, MD because I can't find anyone else willing to work on my G35. I hope to get a price for the fan shroud installation. And hopefully an idea on the idle adjustment... and how it is done.

@ johnnydarko: I really do not want to take it to a BMW garage but I am running out of local mechanics to work with. This is a small garage with just 2 people who most of the time work on BMW. I hope to be charged an hourly rate for installation of the fan shroud. As for raising the idle, I would imagine they don't have an infiniti program to do it or some reason. I hope to find out today.

Is raising the idle as easy as turning a small screw at the top middle area of the engine? This is what I need to know.

Second, the fan shroud should take an hour and a half to two hours at $85.00 per hour to change out.

To raise the idle you need to go to a Nissan or Infiniti dealer and have them do it. The Consult tool used on all Nissans is the only way of making any type of ecu related adjustments. They'll probably just charge you a flat rate around $100 to hook it up and adjust the idle. As for the fan shroud I quickly glanced at the fsm and it looks pretty simple just drain the radiator and disconnect the upper hose remove the airbox unclip the harness and pull it out. Now it doesn't say anything about any bolts, but it looks like there are two at the top of the shroud that bolt it to the radiator.

Thank you very much. I will print this info out for the fan shroud install. As for going to a dealership... My car has a Vortech supercharger. Will the dealership shy away from my request of increasing the idle? I really do not like Infiniti dealerships in Maryland. Only 2 are available. Both are very difficult to deal with.
