AWD conversion?

AWD conversion?
Is it even remotely possible to spectulate the idea of a conversion from RWD to AWD? The idea seems bizzare and some of you are gonna say, why didn't you get the G35x or why didn't you buy an STi or an A4. But I just wanted to know if it is possible, how much it is going to cost, and how long will it take for such a procedure. Thanks ^_^

Re: AWD conversion?
Yeah, but Infiniti definitely won't actually produce that. A coupe is really intended to be as impractical as a convertible, but for those who just don't care for the convertible experience (and the look).
AWD for the Coupe would be a good idea for the tuners. The G barely has enough traction under hard acceleration (really just in 1st gear) as it is. After you do some major modifications such as forced induction, AWD is really great so you don't hurt your 0-60 and 1/4 times due to traction loss. Would be nice in the snow, too.

Re: AWD conversion?
I don't think AWD is a good idea for the G35C. These are already heavy cars; with an AWD drivetrain, they would probably tip the scales at or near 3700 lbs. A "sports car" should weigh about 1000 lbs less than that. With that kind of weight, the G35's handling would be a joke. Plus, AWD would incur higher drivetrain power losses.

Re: AWD conversion?
want awd? i got a car i'll sell ya. 'course i'll need like 30k for it. oh, and you can't get a loan on it. oh, and you can't drive it on the street. oh, and it doesn't look as nice as a g either. but it's fast as hell and a whole lot of fun to drive. not really for sale either now that i think about it.
Anyway, AWD is great, but unless it is a factory set up you'll need to rob a bank in order to do it the right way. tryin' to use a Gx drivetrain is just gonna result in a big heavy pile of crap.

Re: AWD conversion?
Much more cost effective to go with a LSD if you need to put more traction to the ground. Right now there are several good clutch type LSDs out there like Cusco, Nismo, Kaaz. Quaife may come out with a Torsen type sometime in the future.
omahaG: What have you done to your DSM? Sounds quite heavily modified to get it into the 11's.

Re: AWD conversion?
DSM mods - if I can remember them all
by the way, that's on street tires and the engine set up as well as the suspension set up are for solo II, not for drag. For the same money - actually probably less money and less work it 'd run 10s.
stock block and crank, eagle rods, JE 9:1 pistons, removal of factory balance shafts and full rotating assembly balanced, stock valves, springs, titanium keepers, custom cams from crower ground to my specs cuz all the cams you can buy off the shelf are all drag race application with not much bottom end, 550cc injectors - stock are 450, stock throttle body - by rule, stock intake manifold, one step down NGK plugs, ECU modified to rev to 8500rpm, HKS VPC for air/fuel management - its old and outdated but paid for and works, custom header, turbo is a mitsubishi 16g with an 18g compressor wheel running at 18psi for autocrossing and 25psi for that 11.51 run, spearco intercooler core, HKS SSblow off valve dumped to atmosphere, 3" down pipe with an I can't remenber muffler that ends just behind the drivers seat, Jun chromoly flywheel, act 3 puck clutch with 2800lb pp, aluminum driveshaft, quaife front differential, spool in center diff., has stock LSD rear diff, stock transfercase, custom tranny - don't ask how much, and its completely gutted with a full cage and weighs in at about 2550lbs without driver. Of course for solo II we run a lightweight wheel and roadrace slick. I'm probably forgetting something but you get the idea. It is a project that my father and I have together.
