Why doesn't Infiniti make better cars?

I have to vent. My car has the following issues: sunroof noise while closed and driving over rough surfaces, bose electrical noise, bose left channel dropouts, and rear axle clicking. now granted these issues aren't major, but it still pisses me off. in addition, i know there are others with more serious issues (tranny problems)
three of the four problems I experience have been observed since early this year or last. Nissan even has a TSB for axle clicking on the Z but has issued nothing for the G. In fact, Z's built after feb aren't supposed to have the problem, but my G was built in March and does! I dont understand how nissan can build these cars, have flaws, and then not fix them asap in production (these problems were in 03s, and are now in 04s too)They have to notice that theyre getting an unusual number of orders for head units, axles, window motors, etc? Why not fix the problems? I don't have window motor problems (yet) but I dont understand how an issue like that can come up anymore. Regarding head units, it seems that its a design flaw and replacing the head unit doesnt even solve the problem because the replacement is still faulty. Maybe this is why they dropped brembo from the 2005s, but I still dont understand why other issues go unaddressed... maybe Infiniti can do nothing about head units for example, because they dont build them, but why not switch suppliers? building faulty units has to justify breach of contract. And in any case, the tranny issues and sunroof noise issues still go unexcused. I just don't get it. (end rant)

maybe its ok to build cars that are only 90% perfect? its not like these issues are going to affect their sales anyway.

i love this car too much though, there's just nothing better below $45k (imo) ...if i didnt love it, there wouldnt be any frustration. with enough problems id just sell it and as you said, be happy.

I don't think there is any car these days with all the power features and electronics that will be trouble free. If you want trouble free and lifesucking go buy a Honda Civic Value Package with wind up windows, no power locks, no sunroof, no air, etc. The more features and goodies you add the more problems you have. It's a tradeoff for having the hottest car you can buy for the money.

Re: Why doesn't Infiniti make better cars?

Understood. But why cant Infiniti hear about an issue, investigate, confirm, and then fix it so that the next cars that people buy wont have the same issues. People had window issues in 2003 for example, why didnt they make it a point to build better mototrs (or get a supplier who could) for the 04s? I dont have this problem myself (thaknfully-figners crossed), but others do and I cant understand why.

All i can figure is that the car is "good enough", so they shouldnt worry about fixing anything.

Re: Why doesn't Infiniti make better cars?

A $30,000 car is just a little over average sales price for a 2004 car [$28,600].
Kind of what one expects from a Basic starting to be upscale entry level sport-0-lux starter car.

The G20 started out as a car you [Q45 owners] bought your daughter as a first car......econo box [2 liter] with a nice interior..[very few were manuals]..........how it became the transformed model of today is beyond me.......in just one model year. WOW how marketing can twist the facts.

It still is the least expensive model at the dealership.

Infiniti used to build excellent cars. The G35 has made the company slip considerably in Initial Quality Ratings. The G35 is good looking and sporty enough to make people forget about all the deficiencies in build quality.

I might buy the GT-R, but if Infiniti ships it with window motors that fail, paint that chips, a lackluster soundsystem that shorts out, and brakes that squeal at the slightest provocation, then count me out.

Re: Why doesn't Infiniti make better cars?

interesting. maybe when nissan gets into a better financial situation theyll build higher quality cars? im not saying these are low quality, only that there are seemingly obvious problems that they dont seem to be fixing.

if the gtr comes in at $60k, and the g35 is any indication of how things might be, I cant think of anything else I'd rather own I dont like the look of the E90 3 series (yet), so im not sure about an M3.. plus i dont like vettes either.

Go buy a C class Mercedes and find out what real trouble is! Or Try a 7 series BMW and try to have a nice day!

The difference is that, while Mercedes-Benz has openly announced that it is going to sacrifice profits to improve quality, and while BMW was not that problematic to begin with, Infiniti has sucked up the profits, not fixed any design problems, and not issued any recalls.

Infiniti as a brand has excellent long-term reliability, as good as any brand (even Lexus according to Consumer Reports on 3 & 5 yr old models).

That started to slip away when they introduced the G35. In 2003-2004, Infiniti fell from #3 to #8.

Re: Why doesn't Infiniti make better cars?

No, you're thinking the JD Power & Associates survey. I cited Consumer Reports, which is more comprehensive & detailed.

Consumer Reports surveyed nearly 700 000 owners, JD P & A surveyed about 50 000 owners I believe. Further, the CR results break down specific areas of problems, as well as specific models. The JD P & A survey simply asks how many problems (not what area the problem is) & doesn't address specific models the way CR does.

Based on 2003 models, Infiniti was tied for 2nd best, & the G35 had better than avg reliability.

It's only been a year? A little too early to tell. I'd be pissed off if my car don't last a year :-P
