There was a recall several years ago over this particular issue, I believe it has something to do with the filler neck pipe. Call Infiniti and let them know about the gas tank issues you're having. You might also ask this question at www.infinitihelp.com they seem to have all the right answers.

But i have found that depending on the gas pump you can fill up. It just takes a few min more. Plus i dont really fill up my car all that often.
yea, mine is a 2004... i guess im gona go look around to see if there was any recall on the issue... i've tried bp, qt, and several different places and they all seem to be the same... thanks guys

mine just started doing this its annoying the needle goes up and down showing i have no gas then itll go up and still have the low gas light on...and when i fill it all the way up it doesnt completely show it filled on the gauge
I took my car in for this back in aug 2009.
Here is what is on the invoice:
Performed ITB08-041A. Replaced fill limit vent valve cover.
Here is the PDF file for the TSB. Looks like it affects 03-08 models.

Look at the TSB, looks like it's a biotch to do. LOL Check out the pics. They have to stick their hand into the tank and the tank has to be empty before they work on it.

It cost me ZERO. Since they performed the TSB, I no longer have that problem. No matter what gas station I go to. So it is not the Gas station, but the car itself.
edit, I did it on aug 2010 not 2009.
