I spoke with the service rep on this and they insisted it was acceptable. I brought in my car recently to finish off the 1,500KM test. I ran just under 9mm below full which according to the bulletin fails the test (needs engine replacement).

They topped up the engine oil, and released the car to me. However, they told me I have to do this test 5 times, and now asked me to come in the next 1,500km for test 2/5. They apparently have to prove I fall in the "no good" section 5 times.

It seems a little excessive to run this test 5 times, and really a complete waste of my time.

I've never heard of this practice before. Have any of you dealt with this round of oil consumption tests before?
I did this same test when I first got my 05 and thought something was wrong with my engine. They replaced my engine twice. They usually do not replace engine according to the Infiniti Service Rep, but since I developed a friendship with him - he requested the replacements. After 2 replacements I was still having the problem, and thought I had brought a lemon.

So during one of the tests, I blew a tire, and had to ride on the spare for a while - not sure why, must have been because they had to order the tire. During that time, my driving had slowed a lot, and I was driving normally - I passed the oil consumption test that time...

I asked my Ser Rep friend to give it to me straight - did I have a lemon - and he said no - I just drive too fast. So for me - I burn more oil because I drive fast most of the time... I'm fine with that. Probably didn't need them to replace the engines either, but I fine with that also..

Do you have that? Or can you get it? If so post it up and I'll post the US one. Lets compare....

That's a call-out to all Canadians

Hey guys,

Just providing an update on my OC issue. I ran my 4th oil test, and the dealer noted it was between 7-8 mm which is at the border of failure, and asked me to come back again for another test, which is wierd because I tested multiple times before going and I read it at 12mm - and my previous tests were clear failures. I'm chalking it up to a mistake by the service tech at Alta Infinti - hopefully that's all it is.

I've been asked to come back for another oil test, but this time run 2000km. I noticed however the tech that filled my oil put in about 3mm-4mm above the H mark. It's not a huge overfill but definitely more oil than the tech should have put.

everything
Theyre f*cking you around. Go to a different dealership.

I brought mine in, passed by 1mm, came back in, failed, they OK'ed my new block. Print out the TSB and tell them to read it aloud to you. If it fails, it fails, says nothing about doing multiple tests if it fails once.

I despise dealerships!!! I noticed oil spots on the garage floor last week. Got my car aligned last week, got it up on the lift, sure as sh't its p;ssing oil all over somewhere near the pan. Calling Corporate next week to tell them that theyre gonna fix THEIR f*ck up AGAIN!!!

Yea, there is definitely some things i've questioned. Doing the test 5 times has surely made me raise an eyebrow, but they assured it was process asked of them by Infiniti Canada. I have swallowed my pride and gone through their hoops because my car is a oil consumer - so regardless the end result is an engine. I have questioned whether it is to stall the process so if my engine does get replaced, and it too is a burner, I would have already passed extended warranty.a

This last visit though has made me very cautious - the misreading for one, and filling the oil passed the line definitely is fishy. However, I have gone through multiple tests with them already, I might as well finish it off.

The dealership is Alta Infiniti in Canada. The service manager seems alright and wants to help - but I'll definitely be cautious now since my last visit. I'll continue to post up my experience with this process.

Slow down....staying in the 2-3rpm...worked for me. When I drive aggressively, I burn a lot of oil, when I'm chilling...oil is might be a little off, but it's not bad. Took me a while to get honest with myself, after two engine swaps (early on when I first brought my car), crying that I had a lemon etc.. In reality, I'm an aggressive driver, and suffer from road rage. There I said it...now I'm on the road to recovery... These cars are not economy car even a little bit.

Most of the time when I drive in the 4-6rpms, cuz I got places to be..don't like traffic, and think I got issues with cars passing me. I'm always in a hurry to go nowhere. I'm getting a lot better though.

Just a suggestion: Try driving normal, with patience, not doing more that 10 over the speed limit, I sure your oil consumption will change. If not, do like I do, buy oil by the case..and check it regularly.

After 6 gruelling visits to Infiniti for constant oil checks my G went into the dealer last Monday to get the short block replaced.

My repair was for one week then it got extended another week, so the installation is estimated to take 2 weeks... is this normal for a short block replacement? I would have thought it would take a week at most?

That sucks.. I'm going to bring it in to Infiniti soon as well. Just got the car for a week but I want to get this checked out as soon as possible if I have to go in for 5 times.. Still have about 20k for warranty.. but by the looks of it it would take like 1Xk before they help me do anything. Thanks for the heads up.
