Engine burning oil
Engine burning oil
I have a 2003 G35 coupe I pre ordered in October. I had a knoking sound in the engine so I took it in the dealer right away they told me the oil was low and they filled it up and told me to come back after I put 500 miles on the car. I did finally last week they tols me it was down 20milimiters. They now want to change the engine and send it back to Japan so their tecks can investigate why it happened. I want Infiniti to replace the car it only has 2500 miles it's brand new I feel that is the proper thing to do. If any one has suggestions or the same problem please e-mail me.

Re: Engine burning oil
I assume that when they said 20mm down that they meant on the dipstick....about 4/5ths of an inch. about a quart or less. That shouldn't have caused a knock or cause the engine to fail.
Go along with the new motor... I doubt they'll replace the whole car......... Good luck with the repair, and are they coming up with a loaner while they do the fix?

Wow.
New motor = new break-in period.
Something is wrong if a brand new engine is losing oil, even if it's just a small amount. I doubt they will replace the entire car; they are fulfilling their obligation to fix the broken part.

Re: Engine burning oil
Knocking sound not good, sounds like a connecting rod or main bearing problem. Have them run a test on the oil for metal content if they have not done so already. Good luck.
