Try to stand it up at a slight angle like this /, it will help get the paint further back so you don't have to spray so close (10-12 inches is the sweet spot), if that makes sense. You defiantly need to clean it after sanding, try rubbing alcohol it will clean any grease off but won't remove any primer like acetone would.

I gotta hand it to ya, not many members would screw up a job that bad and then post pic. It's still early but consider yourself extreemly lucky no one you for painting your grille that bad and yet members were trying to help, unusual. Finished job looks good but then again there were no close ups and it was raining....congratulations.

One could go the easy route like I did. Took off the grill, then had the body shop paint it for $45. Came out flawless and I picked it up the same day. Not knocking the "going your own route", just wanted to throw out another (inexpensive) option for those that may be looking for an alternative.
