damn bada$$ build..

 

If I may ask, why the stitch welds?

A buddy of mine wanted to do it. I don't really like the way they turned out to the point I might tig blast them to flatten them out. A friend of mine says you won't even be able to tell after paint but that's not good enough for me. Never higher a friend to do a job like this. That was a mistake I made. The sides don't natch because he got lazy. well that's the way I see it. He doesn't agree. I would have stitch welded further apart. My whole engine bay is pretty much welded and shaved.

Pulling out everything was a big pain with the brakes in place. I need to make new brake lines ir buy braided. I'm running on my budget at this point but I just keep telling me self now is not the time to skimp.

 

My main question was why? Do those panels really require it? Is it making them any stronger, like they were prone to seperating before you did this?

 

Oh I'm sorry, I misunderstood. We stitch welded on the doors because it was very neccessary since the gussets attach to te inner door frame and we didt want it to seperated the skin from the body. On the in side of the car it's good along te connecting panels because it's just pinch welded and stuck with seam sealer, but some areas are just seam sealer. We wanted to minimize chassis flex. A G35 had crazy body roll. It took a lot to eliminate it before the cage. Personally I wouldn't even bother in most of the area unless you can do it yourself. Alex Pfeiffer told me it's bit really necessary... Unless you were going all out then you could think or it. The body panels are newer of course than a 240 so it's questionable if you really need it. At the doors I would say definitely.

Thanks guys! It's hard to stay motivated sometimes. I wish more people would start doing this so we can get better support. I'm working with powerlab engineering as well. Some Great updates to come. I decided on the color for the interior bit that will be a secret until it gets painted. I removed more wiring and cleaned things up the other day. Tomorrow I'll head back to the shop to get more done. Im going to need to buy gauges for the car since we won't have the canbus anymore to drive the gauges.

I'm sure you've got a ton of guys waiting to see the final project/ jealous as hell that it's not their build! Lol. I wish I had the time, money and connections to get a build like this going, but I don't... that's why I'm living vicariously thru you're build

 

Great write up. Unfortunately the price, availability & aftermarket support here in Australia is not as widespread (Japanese import only, limited market) as in the US so I really enjoying checking on the progress of this build, its nothing like I have seen here...yet! Keep motivated!!!
