front license plate

Are most of you leaving the front license plate off? I hate the thought of drilling holes in my bumper. My state requires it, but my Infiniti service rep says he hasn't heard of any tickets for it and most people leave it off their coupes.

Re: front license plate

I have holes in it already and the bracket to hold the front license plate. I already got a fix it ticket 3 months ago in LA for not having one on my Benz. Funny thing is that I took off the front license plate the same day I got my ticket.

Re: front license plate

There's a "search" button up on the top of each page...then there's keyword options, date options, etc.

Re: front license plate

Yep. Off. Its illegal here in VA, but I bought my car in NC, and I am not about to put it on. I don't think they are very **** about it here, I didn't have one on another car for over a year and no problems. I don't think I ever see a Vette or 300Z with a front plate here either. Its a STUPID law.

Re: front license plate

I was in the dealership the other day while someone was closing on their coupe. I was asking about mounting the front license plate when he said he needed to put the frame on the car. He proceeded to drill the holes in the bumber right on the showroom floor.

What a shame. It's amazing Infiniti didn't think of anything better. But my Toyota Sequoia has the same thing.

Re: front license plate

I'm not putting front plates on my car no matter what. It just looks wrong unless your car color matches your license plate, then it looks A LITTLE better... =(

Re: front license plate

Is there any other front license plate kit available that can be installed without drilling holes?

That way, you can put the front plate on to clear your fix-it ticket, then take it off again without any bumper holes.

Re: front license plate

Here's a not too easy solution.
I bought a 7" long 5/8" bolt from Lowes. I cut off the threaded portion of the bolt and re-threaded it 30mm long M16-2. (That's the hard part). I then drilled and tapped the center of the bolt head 1/4"-20. This is screwed into the tow hook socket. I made a small metal z-shaped clamp, with a hole in it to accept a 1/4"-20 bolt, that went from the bolt head to the Infiniti license plate holder. The 1/4"-20 bolt goes through the clamp which holds the license plate holder against the bumper.

Re: front license plate

If you get tagged locally where law enforcement has a chance to see you and tag you again go to the dealer, let them do the install. My dealer agreed to do this should I encounter a problem. Out of state...doubt if they would care. I've yet to see a Sedan or Coupe with a front plate here in So cal.

Re: front license plate

I know this may sound ghetto but it works for me.....
I was at a local grocery shopping area and there are 2 photo stop lights....about 2 miles apart on the same major street. (cali members....its on paramount ave and whittier blvd). A cop stops to look at my car and gave good compliments. He told me to put the front license plate on but did not give me a ticket. I only had the back and my registration was still stuck on the front window. (this cop seen both the front and back while driving) Well, being the only coupe owner in that area...i did not want to be harassed. Took the mount kit, placed some foam to protect....and zip tied it on the driver side grill. So far i had compliments by my detailers and co-worker. It's off center, but it's temporary...license plate comes off on local meets. You cant see the zip ties at all. they say my car has the "euro style look." I'm whatevers. Hope this helps.... as a suggestion.
