Just got my 2005 coupe a few hours ago

Just picked up my Diamond Graphite coupe with sport suspension, premium package, aero kit, splash guards, and graphite interior this afternoon. This is the first car the Tampa dealer has delivered with the sport suspension.

I visited my dealer to put a deposit on a similar coupe minus the aero kit that was supposed to arrive in 10 days or so. They just received the car I bought , and I had first crack at it.

I spent most of the day at the dealership working out the trade for my 330CiC BMW- complicated by the dealer making a mistake on the amount of my trade-in and trying to squeek out of it when I agreed to take the car with the aero kit.

I was a bit worried that my wife would not like the spoiler on the car since she has said she did not like some other cars with spoliers. To my surprise she said she loved it.

My BMW was a stick shift, and after several manual cars in a row along with what may be a few months delay before the 6MTs arrive, along with the fact that my wife could enjoy the AT on the G35 as well as me, decided to get the AT. Also, we are going to drive it from Tampa to New Jersey for Thanksgiving to visit my kids for a few weeks and I wanted to do the trade before the trip.

First impressions of the G35 are that it is awesome as far as power and torque. The driver's seat is at least as comfortable as the sport seat in my BMW. I think the G35 is close in perception of quality in the interior. The ride, for only a few miles so far, with the sport suspension and huge wheels (my BMW had 17 inchers) seems about the same over the bad Tampa streets. The coupe is quieter than the CiC with the top up. A quick impression of the radio is that it is at least as good as the HK in the BMW? The AC in the G35 is easier to use, and on first look seems to really blast out the cool air vs. the BMW;s complicated system. Wifey liked the fact that she could adjust her side of the car individually.

The leather of the G35 is smoother, and I like the perforated leather on the seats and steering wheel. The BMW had more power options on both seats vs. the G35. The sport seats in my 2002 BMW were showing wear on the side bolsters from rubbing them when getting in the car. The G35 wins hands down for cup holders and places to store things. The trunk on both cars is about the same, but, for my upcoming trip, I think being able to fold the rear seats is an advantage for the coupe.

It's to soon to comment on the 19 inch wheels/sport suspension vs the 17/SS in the BMW- but the wheels sure look impressive on the G35. The BMW had a little exhaust "burble", but nothing like the sonorous notes coming out of the G35 when the pedal is stomped a little.

I can't compare the headlights yet- the BMW had bi-xenons which I rarely put on high beam. The steering wheel feel along with the orange stitching and perforated leather beats the one in my BMW.

Why did I trade the BMW? After about 3 years with a car I get the itch for something new. The next 3 coupe/convertible is not due until 2007? I am not so enamoured over the preview pictures of the next 3. Also, the increase in power of the G35 along with it's price advantage were factors. And, I needed new tires on the CiC! I enjoyed the BMW, but it was time for it to go. It was a mostly trouble free vehicle. BTW.

Anyhow, I wanted to check in as a "newbie" to this forum, say hello to all, and give a few early and honest comparos vs. my CiC.

I'm going for a ride!

Re: Just got my 2005 coupe a few hours ago

this is an interesting post because i read not too long ago that the main purpose of the sport package for 05s was to directly match the ride of the BMW 330. This was from a cheat sheet or fact sheet given to dealers on 04/05 differences.

it would be very interesting as you get more miles on different road conditions to see if this holds true.

Congratulations BobT.

Funny, I just picked up my blk/dg 5AT, spt, premium, aero vehicle almost the same way you did. I had on order a car w/o the aero, but I got to take the car with the aero kit instead, because it came in first. At first I didn't think I would like the spoiler, but now I like it a lot.

HDog-

I answered the question :what did I get for my car" as if it was the trade-in value of my car.
