autocrossed the G

Ok, I autocrossed the G over the weekend. I took some pics but forgot to set the camera at a lower resolution, so I had to compress them A LOT to get them under 100K - so quality is lacking. Hopefully they post OK.

The G did OK. I ran some pretty respectable times in comparison to some other cars on street tires. It's hard to evaluate because of what I'm use to driving. It definitaly is not AWD with 400hp and slicks all around and suspesnion mods with alignment. For a stock car it did OK. It has quite a bit of body roll - more than I expected. It definitaly could use some shocks and swaybars. I had the front tires at 60psi and the back at 30psi. Anyway, it was fun, just not as fun as the racecar.

Oh yah, I had the seat all the way down but still had to open the sunroof and sit leaning to the right so I could wear the helmet.

Re: autocrossed the G

can't I post more than one pic at a time? And how the heck do I reduce the image size so its not full screen? sorry guys, I'm new at this stuff. I do some playing with the other pics before I post the rest.

In case you hadn't figured it out, all the pictures are not of the G - these last three are.

Re: autocrossed the G

ok that wasn't smaller - here you go. I also just figured out that if I would have resized them first, I would not have needed to compress them so far for file size to be Ok. Oh well, live and learn. After all, my title is still "brand spankin' newbie" as you can see above.

Re: autocrossed the G

Was this an SCCA Autocross? I have done it before with the Metro NY Porsche Club. I got many compliments on the G from 911 owners. it is not about the HP - it is all about the precision driving skills. They let you keep the sunroof open?

Re: autocrossed the G

When I auto-crossed, I was told to keep the sunroof open as well. They don't want you to hit a bump and cause your helmet to smash up into it.

Re: autocrossed the G

It was an SCCA event. The rules state that a car can be raced with any equipement in a factory approved position for driving. I had to have the sunroof open for head clearance. You could race with it shut as well. Windows can be up or down, t-tops, etc. Once we even had a guy show up in some old 60s station wagon and it had a lift gate like a tahoe and one of the factory locked positions approve for driving was up. He ran the course - very slow - with that huge door sticking 3ft out off the top of his car.

Re: autocrossed the G

WTF? First of all it's crazy to race an old station wagon, and second of all, with the liftgate up?!?!
was the wagon modded? maybe it was a chevy nomad? Those are sweet. but i think they have tailgates like pickup trucks.

Re: autocrossed the G

a nomad would not be from the 60s. 55-57 only I believe. Anyway, I thought I knew what the wagon was so I did a search. Here she is in all her glory. 1959 Edsel Villiager station wagon. The one the guy raced was even this color. No it was not moded. It wasn't even nice. It took him like twice as long as the next slowest car.
