4080 subwoofer question

Recently a friend of mine gave me all his left over parts from his 2005 coupe. One of the item was a subwoofer box with a 10 in sub. From all the threads I've read, 4080 is good sub box.
I'm trying to figure out if the box he gave me is a 4080 box. It looks almost like it. Are there any generics? I didn't ask him because I'm friends with his little bro. I will upload pics tonight. Also the sub inside is elemental design and I'm thinking he bought this around 2008. I've read about G35papa thread on how this is discontinued. Any info will help.

There are some "copies," 4080 isn't a really unqiue, one of a kind design. If you took your car to any good audio shop and said you wanted to save space, a fg box like 4080 would be an option.

By that I mean as long as the box seems to be well constructed who cares? And it looks like you got a pretty decent sub with it too so I would just install it and be happy.

IMO 4080 sounds like ***. It does not hold enough air inorder for you to get a good sound and feel. Like they say with motors, "there is no replacement for displacement" the same holds true for air flow with sub-woofers. My recommendation is to find out how much room your trying to "sacrifice" for the sound. and go from there. Feel free to check out my build thread(in sig) to see how i did mine.

Thanks for the input. I'm mainly just want to know what my friend gave me because I want to sell it later on. Not much of an audio person. Ipod with tape adapter is good enough for me.

Here's a pic of what I got

it say elemental design. I believe its 110v.2 or something like that. Friend said he's not even sure if sub works but I'm more concern about the box. I've read your build. Nice set up. The way you put your amps look like valve covers on our G.

btw: tape adapter was a major upgrade from cheap dealextreme.com FM transmitter FTL

Got ya, FM trans are POS, i agree. u should consider an AUX in. much better sound. As far as if the box is a true 4080, it should say it? if not then it probable is a custom box, (more than likely is custom) IMO

Yea that's what I'm thinking. All grills should have something on it. Maybe a 4080 logo perhaps but it doesn't. I will need to research those AUX inputs. I have no idea what it is. I'm thinking a plug from audio source to console
