Re: painting your calipers
Definately have to powdercoat them to do it properly! Here is a guy that did it, sure seemed like more time to do than I have, but I sure would like mine to be red too!

Re: painting your calipers
The G2 paint caliper kit is the best paint on the market. If you want to keep your calipers looking good for the life of your car, this kit will be just fine. Super Glossy, easy to do, don't need to remove the calipers, any other questions, PM me AFTER you buy the kit. I've used this kit before and it's worth the $40-$50 easily. Powder coating would be both a PITA (for removal, prep, auto down time, performing the process and reinstall) plus it is not cheap either.

Re: painting your calipers
Today I just installed new rotors and brakes. If the set up is the same only 2 screws should be mounting the caliper to the brackets around the rotor.
Very easy to take off- The screws on my car (not a G35) where 10 mm I don't know if the G35 has the same ones but it will definately be in metric.
The only slight problem that could arise is putting them back on. I had to wiggle one of my calipers for around 15 minutes to get over the wholes.
Not sure if you need to know that but I hope it helps.

Re: painting your calipers
Yes it is true. PlatG used the G2 kit on his G35 coupe and he did not remove the calipers. I also used the kit on my 98 Accord and I didn't remove the calipers. You just have to use masking tape to mask off the areas you don't want to paint. Also, I'd recommend a small paint brush and only doing 2 calipers at a time. This means DO NOT mix the entire can of paint with the hardener.
If you do some research on G2 paint, it can withstand temperatures in excess of 900 degrees F. This means that it can withstand track use/abuse.

Re: painting your calipers
bmoney,
it's a matter of personal preference. i'm thinking about going with either red or black. i'm going to be getting a bs 05 coupe and the black would definitely go with it. however, i've seen a couple s2000's with red calipers and it looks sweet. so, it's up to you. just remember to post some pics after you're done: )

Re: painting your calipers
I used a product called VHT Brake Caliper Paint. Comes in a spray bomb, and is chemical resistant, temp rated to 900 F.
I did mine by masking carefully without removing the calipers (resulted in no overspray), and sprayed 6 coats each. It's stood up very well and hasn't chipped or worn yet (did mine June '03), but I'm not sure if the epoxy based paints are more durable. Only cost me about $7 CDN on sale!

Re: painting your calipers
It was a time consuming project for the most part.. i.e.,
* removing them from the rotors
* cleaning
* wet sanding
* actual hand painting (G2Caliper Kit)
* stencil application
* clear coating
* re-assembly and re-installation on car
* bleed brake lines
I had the time and it was actually fun to do. Total cost was around $70-80 dollars. They really turned out well!
