Hey there G35Drvier,
Long time, been quite busy.
I have been debating a question for some time now and well no one near really knows what I am talking about when considering to trade my car in for a non-Infiniti.
I own an 03 LR 6MT Coupe, the complete package with Brembo, navi etc for quite some time now and the car still looks beautiful and I still see others stare at the car. (no mods, just keep it clean).
Now since owning the car, as many of you know, the car has many many issues. Power windows giving out, the locks giving out, the suspension, the oil (i personally have not noticed), the brakes fast wear, etc.
With the above said and more, I am not to confident in looking at other Infiniti's .
At a current G35 owner would you go back or would you look to others?
I understand the version purchased is of course an early, and they may have fixed all problems on the newer g37's which in my opinion are a tad feminine.
I have once configured the sedan though but again I am some what drawn back by the brand.
What are your opinions?
What do you all think of our competitor the Audi A5?
BMW 3series?
Of course the price is much more, but with that said you do get what you pay for?
Thank you fellow g35'ers

I have an 05 laser red coupe 6mt, lots of problems here as well. Owned the car for 2 years. My previous car, 2002 sentra se-r spec v, gave me less problems in 7 years of ownership. Just finished oil consumption test, waiting to hear from dealership. If I don't end up getting a new short block, my loyalty to infiniti is gone. As much as I love the sexy lines and the sporty exhaust note, enough is enough. I'd pick Audi over BMW.

05 sedan here with 82K miles. I've owned it for 2 years and have fixed the axle click, replaced both lower control arms, and had the door rattle fixed under warranty when I bought the car. All minor issues that were easy DIY projects and those are the only issues I have had.
I think the sedans are more trouble free than the coupes.

I'd buy another coupe if Infiniti would put the 5.6L in it...and hopefully improve the styling of the G37 - or better yet if they'd produce the Essence hybrid coupe.
In fact, I just bought a G37x sedan to serve as my wife's new daily driver. Since styling isn't the strong point of sedans anyway, I can occasionally enjoy the g37 powertrain without having to drive the effeminate g37 coupe, and my wife can enjoy having a usable backseat and trunk. The "x" looks like a monster truck when parked in the garage next to my coupe though. It's easily four inches taller than my stock-ride-height coupe. It's like the fat girl at the dance...can be a lot of fun, but best to take her for a ride in the dark, and away from view.
When I read about excessive brake wear and mechanical problems, I often wonder just how much some of us are abusing our cars. My '04 has 54,000 miles, and the brake pads have been changed once - at about 42,000 miles. The only component failure I've had is the driver's side window motor...once. Perhaps I "won the lottery", or perhaps I don't beat on my car as much as others? Maybe it just doesn't have as much "experience" yet, since the mileage is relatively low compared to a lot of G's its age?

I've got 2 used Infinitis that I've had for less than a year. 06 LR 6MT coupe with 80k+ on it. 07 G35X with 62k+ on it. Service record on the coupe indicates a good number of small issues but it had to have the clutch replaced at 66k miles. That concerns me a little. No OC issues. Had to have right front hub assembly replaced on the X for a bad wheel bearing; done under waranty.
So yes, I do have some concerns about these cars. However, it would be naive to assume that this type of thing would not be an issue for BMW 3 series cars. They cost more to begin with, routine costs are higher and they have their own set of well known issues as well.
If I had to buy two cars to replace them, right now, I'd still probably go with Infiniti. Nothing else appeals to me as much. Never been a BMW fan. Plus, too many friends with BMWs with lots of extremely expensive and frutstrating problems.
And quite frankly, for the same money, I don't know of anything else on the market that would be a replacement for the G35 coupe (2+2, at least some trunk). Maybe the Hyundai Genesis.

My next car will more than likely be another Lexus, the XF, or the new stylish Panamera that has really grown on me. Time will tell though, I doubt I would get another Infiniti, I like to change it up time to time.

The A5 is similarly good looking, but its hard to justify the price for that little 3.2 liter...I love my 07 6MT, nothing major has gone wrong so far. Knock on wood.

I let go of my brand new Lexus is250 fully loaded for my 03 OB Fully Loaded. I'm pretty happy with car. My car is out of warranty so I do all the maintenance and repairs myself and it hasn't given me any major problems.
If you're looking to getting into a German car, just make sure you purchase the extended warranty.

I'm sure it isn't entirely accurate but Lexus has just always seemed like a boring brand to me. Impecable quality, but kind of dull styling and good but not inspring performance. Even when the performance specs on paper look good the reports still often reflect that they are still boring to drive. Gross generalizations for sure, but I can still say for certain that they don't make anything right now that is even remotely aestheticly pleasing to me. Yawn all the way.

True that N80, I am getting out of the 'sporty' side of cars, I'm a bit more into luxury, and Lexus has had great quality in terms of how smooth and quiet their rides are. Laugh now or later but I still love the sc430. My mom had an 05 pebble beach edition and it was not fast nor anything but it was amazing in the spring/summer/autumn with the top down.
If I had the money I'd love the LFA (heh), and yet the IS-F never took me by surprise, I test drove one and it was fun but that gearbox is sure slushy.

I think you should give serious consideration to the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupe it will run all over any Lexus or the M3. 451 hp can optionally go with 481 hp.

I've been looking into those as well, it's a huge tossup for me as my next car.
I should really think about it all and pan through all my options.
I know I want a sedan, the only 2-door I'd get next is the sc430.
I would love the c63 black series, but I'd really have to really hard research each one and drive each one before determining the pros and cons to each.
/threadjack.
Good luck OP!

Go with the sedan C63 AMG the coupe is all new for 2012. Mercedes has been making the C63 sedan for several years.

No issues with my 03 other than 2 bad lock actuators and 4 burned O2s when I got her. both found on the lot and fixed before deleivery.
Put 35k miles on her this year alone and other than the rotors and pads on the Brembos going at 100k miles no issues at all.
No oil consumption and nothing failing in the interior.
in fact just replaced the factory battery from 2003 as well.
Now If i was going to look again at this type of car.
believe it or not I would buy the Hyundai Genesis and they are putting a 333 hp V6 in the coupe in 2012 per Car and Driver a few days ago. ( and a 400+ hp monster 5.0 going in the Sedan and possibly next gen coupe)
combine that with factory 6MT and Brembos an amazing entertainment package and a near carbon copy of our cars at a lower parts and labor price and 100k mile warranty.. count me in..
