First G collision, need advice

I was driving this morning, and the person turning on to my lane apparently didn't see me, i swerved to avoid them. But their front bumper dragged against my driver's side. They even admitted fault. This is my first wreck and was wondering what should i look forward to to make sure the repairs are done correctly. What shops do you guys recommend here in north Atlanta, ga? I have read somewhere about diminished value law here is ga? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Damn, sorry to hear that man. But at least you're ok. Did you call the cops? Do you have the other person's contact and insurance info? Any proof that they admitted fault? I have no clue about shops or the law in GA, so can't help there.

something like this happened to me a year ago to be very honest if you want it done right have the whole car painted because i tried to have just the one side matched and they never got it right i have a dg coupe and from what i heard grays and silver are hard to match it took me about half a year of complaints to get the whole car done so if you want it done right have it all done at once. its very heartbreaking to see someone go through the same thing. sorry i dont live in ga but ask around for a good body shop

as far as I know here the procedures of diminished value claims are as follows.

Your car must be repaired to it's original condition
Then your diminished value needs to be determined. One way to do it is to go get it appraised at infiniti dealership and have them give you a value considering the fact that the car has been in an accident and that it has a "dirty" record. Than compare that value to a clean record cars and claim the difference as a diminished value. Other way to do it is to take it to a body shop that does diminished value claims. This will cost you. Shops usually charge anywhere from $200-$500 to prepare a diminished value claim. Then you take prepared claim to insurance and hopefully get paid.

Keep in mind that your repair cost must be over certain amount in order for insurance company to consider that value has been diminished. Also type of damage plays a role in it.

To find out if you can claim any kind of diminished value you need to know what are the requirements in your state to qualify for diminished value.

Good luck.

I just got my car back from a similar collision but mine was a tad bit worst. My car was in the shop for from February 18th until March 6. They had to replace my whole drivers side pretty much: New front bumper, Door, fender, rear quarter panel, and my front suspension had to be replaced.

The other guy was insured by Geico and I was very pleased with the service. They recommended me to a local Collision center where geico had there appraisers on location. They replaced all parts brand new without question, Two of my rims which i bought brand new were barely scuffed and they replaced both of them. There were some issues that came up with my window calibration and the speed sensor causing my front wheels to lock up and they sent it out to Infiniti for them to fix.

Once everything was done I went to pick up my car and the paint wasnt blended very well and I expressed that I wasnt happy with it, they finally figured out that they were not going to be able to match the paint very well since it is a pearl and they resprayed the car. I believe that they were in over there heads because it actually should have been a total but they committed to it and never changed words.

They paid for my rental which i ended up getting a 2011 chevy hhr (I wasnt going to be picky but ive heard you can be choosy on what you want)

As far as the diminished value, The manager at the collision center told me that since all parts that were damaged were replaced brand new that I had nothing to worry about. Geico gave me all the documents I needed that specified everything that they repaired and replaced.

Hopefully you have a good experience because insurance companies and collision centers can be a nightmare.

I forgot to add the shop offers a lifetime guarantee on all there work and paint.

Heres a link to my thread so you can get an idea on the damage.

sorry for late reply
okay long story....
i went to a body shop that was reputable (3 locations, great website, worked with all insurance companies, etc.)
first i went there to get the whole car done even though it was just the drivers side and rear bumper was damaged. I spoke with an estimator to get a quote I told him I wanted the whole car done because I had fear of it not matching....he was convincing me to just have the driver side and rear bumper painted, I asked him if it would match 100% he assured me that it would.... $1,700 and 2 weeks later I picked it up. It was a sunny day so I looked at it and it matched (PERFECT I THOUGHT). Next day after work (10pm) my car was parked in front of some florescent lights,my heart fell, the paint did not match the difference was of black and white (I was pissed). Next day early morning I went to the shop I told them I wanted it done right I was polite enough to have them do the rest (front bumper, hood, passengers side, and trunk). They gave me a discount (not much) and $2,200 and 3 weeks later paint did not match again.

I'll make the rest short and sweet
I complained and complained asking to speak with the owners
this happened *shop manager got fired *new manager got my whole car done for free (no hassles) *i got 06 sport bumper *roof painted black

please you don't want to go through this, get it done right

yea everything came out good, this whole story took 6 months total of just going to the shop and making phone calls and having it looked at by "paint specialist"
