Would this ruin my car?

Hey all, I have an automatic g35 sports coupe... yes I know, i'm deprived, I should have gotten a manual one... but it's too late now. Anyways, I was wondering if I were to say... rev to 4000 RPM in neutral and then slam the car into drive... would that do the car significant harm? I'm guessing yes... but I want to hear your opinions.

Re: Would this ruin my car?

The bigger question is, did you ever do it at all?

Re: Would this ruin my car?

i wouldnt recommend this, but it would be better than what youre doing!!!

hold the brakes with your left foot while pressing on the gas, then let go of the brakes... try this at different rpm's and with/ without VDC on...

Neutral drops and brake torquing will both lead to your transmission's demise. Some people do brake torquing only under certain circumstances (launching at the track, preferably running a tranny cooler, etc). But in either event, 4000 RPM is overkill.

Re: Would this ruin my car?

If you brake torque I heard 2000 maybe 2500 RPM is adequate... Brake torquing isn't nearly as bad as neutral drops...

Brake torquing just causes the torque converter to output a lot of heat... That's why you should run an auxillary tranny cooler if you do this frequently... Of course brake torquing from an excessively high RPM, will cause you to burn your fluid... And hot/burnt fluid is bad for your tranny, cause it'll cause the various seals and such to deteriorate or leak. Leaking solenoids will not engage, causing slips. Leaking/deteriorated seals, can also lead to starvation of fluid, leading to catastrophic failure. (Heat is a slushbox's #1 enemy)

Neutral drops, well.... That just puts a whole boatload of stress on all the components in one big bang. Literally.

Re: Would this ruin my car?

its not cause of neutral drops that messed up your tranny on your accord... i HAD a 98 V6 EX coupe and went thru 5 trannies, UNDER WARRANTY! my last tranny went at 130,000 and honda still replaced it.

bad year i guess!
