Painting emblem on car

I plan on painting my trunk emblem without taking it off. Will painters tape prevent spray paint from getting on the car or will the paint soak through??

How are you painting it? Spraying?

Personally, i'd just get some googone, take it off and paint it. Id be afraid of getting overspray on my car.

If you are using a brush, maybe, but I dont know how that would turn out.

you have to mask it perfect in order to not have it bleed. I honestly would not risk it. take it off, paint it and put it back on. IMO

^+1 to the DIY posted above.

i did that and it came out decent. i ended up taking it off and painting and clearcoating though, cuz it bothered me from being less than perfect.

you can do the opposite of the plasti dip thing...

plasti dip everything and peel the plasti dip off the emblem then paint it and when its done peel off the rest of the plasti dip

you can lay down tape just incase too

Dont be a hack! Take it off.

How hard is it to get a small flathead screwdriver and stick it under the emblem and pop it off?

And dont use spraypaint!!! Would you use latex paint on a commercial jet? So why use spraypaint on a car? Use the correct paint for the application

You want it to look like sh't or like this?.....

Done the right way with automotive bc/cc

None of the paint shops around here say they can achieve the black chrome effect. That's what I'm aiming for...

to be honest, your infiniti letters look pretty bad. To close together for OEM and curve up on each end. Not a fan sorry

As others have pointed out, take it off. Its not hard, just some Goo gone or something sort of detergent and use some floss and just slowly start working your way from the back until you the adhesive is removed from the emblem.

Don't do a half @ssed job because you'll regret it after:

Dupont bc/cc. Ive got a pint of basecoat sitting at home for touchups or whatever. Pulled everything off and sprayed it with a gun.

Thats funny, because I made a template before I took them off the car AND took measurments off a G coupe at a dealership, maybe you should get your eyes or facts checked.... or you could try using Google images and you'll see the I's are higher on coupes.
