Re: G35 Coupe problems!!!!

"hmm just wondering... is it possible that you just revved too low and u stalled b/c you went below idle speed? Becuase all those things happen when your engine dies b/c of low idle speed..."

I think this could definitely be a cause...you could say that maybe it was in 6th on accident...but it's pretty easy for someone to know when they're in 6th instead of 4th. No idea.

I read about a similar problem on the Lexus IS forum...they seem to be having quite a frew problems with this as well.

Does anyone know roughly what percentage of these G's that have done this were automatics and what were m/t's...?

Re: G35 Coupe problems!!!!

heres the FA forum http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthre...b=5&o=&fpart=1

seems like they've all been manuals but they say its different then just stalling, when u stall all the lights in the dash turn on and before u stall u the car shakes violently, it seems like something electronic cut out on them.
it would be nice to know what speeds they were travelling at and the exact gear.

Re: G35 Coupe problems!!!!

I have the same problem with my coupe. To my knoweldge, I was the first to report it and had been told up until now that no one else had the same issue.

No, power steering and brakes do not work without power. You will still have brakes and steering to a degree, but this is no longer powered hence the term. This is why braking and steering take more strength. The bigger problem is that, with the car in the off position as is the case of this issue, the wheel will lock in place just as occurs if you are parked and don't have the key in the ignition while you try to jerk the wheel over.

The car is physically shutting itself down.

I'd appreciate it if anyone that is experiencing this problem could emial me at semi_on@arstechnica.com. I intend to force Infiniti to keep a record of all of us that are having this problem. Perhaps in this way we can avoid the terrifyingly apathetic response those of us that have experienced this have received from our dealers. I hope it won't take one of us driving off a cliff before Infiniti decides to address the issue.

I would also suggest that anyone with this problem take their car in and tell their dealer to drive it for however long they have to in order to identify the problem. Get a loaner and refuse to drive your car. Not only will you get your message across better but you'll avoid the risk one 6MT.net member ran during which he was forced off the road and into $4k worth of damages (that Infiniti refuses to pay) because of this ongoing problem.

Regards,
Semi

Re: G35 Coupe problems!!!!

From what I can remember (I've had it happen a half dozen times or so):

1st gear around 10mph
2nd gear around 30mph 2x
4th gear around 45mph 2x
6th gear around 80mph 2x

May be off a bit, but that's close.

I should mention, I don't believe any of those were in accelleration/decelleration scenarios.

Semi on:

Bro!? WTF!? If this has seriuosly happend to YOU a half a dozen times or so at all those speeds my question is this.........WTF ARE YOU DOING DRIVING THAT CAR!!!?????? Do you have a death wish or something???? Come on man, if that happened to me that many times I would have raised such a stink! I would not only have already hired a lawyer by now...which I do have.....I would have DEMANDED Infiniti take action .......don't waste your time with the GSM on this matter....go straight to the top and write a letter to the President of North American Infiniti!! This is some serious stuff, if your having that many stalls. Really??!! 1/2 dozen or so??!! Damn! May I make a suggestion? The NHTSA, which is a dot.gov agency (National Highway Traffic Safety Admin.). They will open a file on cars that have defects and altho it may take more than one person reporting, this would be a place to start. Going to the dealer is a one-on-one and does nothing for others who think they're they only ones having this problem.

Yeah, this is a definite major safety issue that the NHTSA should know about. Once they confirm the problem, they will force Nissan to put a fix out ASAP.

Sounds like a computer glitch, but regardless the car should have never been designed to engage the column lock under any circumstances while the car is in motion and the ignition is on. Design flaw, pure and simple.

Re: G35 Coupe problems!!!!

I have already spoken to Infiniti corporate and consumer affairs. They all tell me there's nothing they can do if they can't reproduce the problem which they've been unable to do. As such, I'm trying to figure out what options I have with the buy back program to get out from under neath the car. I'd like to involve a lawyer and file for lemon law status, but everything I'm reading on others cars doing similar things has pointed to that ultimately being a failure...

Needless to say, I'll never own another Infiniti in my life.

Your car is a Lemon...you are entitled by law a full refund...and if you have a good lawyer...maybe even more.
