SeaFoam

I know this subject has been beaten to death...

After searching and reading through countless threads this is what i came up with

i have 30k on my 05 coupe

heres a few questions and thoughts correct me if im wrong

1. put a third in the intake, a third in the oil, and a third in the gas tank
2. i would need to change my spark plugs right after
3. change the oil
4. change the fuel filter
5. il take my cats off and put test pipes in so they dont get hit with a bunch of crap
6. am i missing anything
7. should i even do it at 30k or wait till 60k or so ?

i put 1/3 in my vacuum hose, and the rest into a full gas tank.
from what i read up its damaging to your engine to put it in the oil. but i could be wrong.

Ive never heard any body changing the fuel filter and putting on test pipes just for a simple seafoam. Ive done them at least 2 times on my G and its worked just as well without changing those.

All I did afterwards was change the oil, didn't touch anything else.

so my spark plugs would be fine ? on some forums people say they get dirty..

+1 on the oil... it thins it. i think thats why you only run the engine for like five minutes then drain it

Spark plugs will be fine. I didn't put any in my oil / gas tank. Only through the intake. once you're done. Go for a drive ( at least 10 ) to burn the excess foam. Let the car cool and change your oil.

Did mine at 74k on my 03 OB 6mt. Runs like a champ.

Good Luck

I put SF in all three. Let it idle, drove it hard for a couple minutes and changed the oil. That's it. Did mine at around 63k and recorded it

Ive done it to oil/gas/vaccum lines. 1/2 oil, 1/2 vaccum, full in the gas with a half tank.I ran it in my car for 2 days = 90 miles. changed the oil, came out black as hell. my car had 80k miles on it. runs great.

thanks, is there a reason you changed the oil after ? or was it just to be safe ?

That is a good point to mention, basically from my understanding sea foam is a "gentle" harsh cleaner. I put a little less than the recommended amount into my oil, which was pretty clean and only 1500mi, and ran the motor at idle for about 10-15 mins and waited 10 minutes and that synthetic came out looking like the darkness of the abyss. Then poured some synthetic through til it was clear. Added oil and a new filter then ran the motor a bit and the second dump was dirty too. The third change had a new filter and pure Mobil one synthetic with synthetic oil stabilizer from Lucas. 2k mi later the oil came out pretty dark and looked like dirty oil mixed with clean oil. I noticed that the area on top of the valve looked like it still had dirty oil per change.... Long story short.. Make sure you flush your crank case thoroughly. Sea foam is great, but could lead to spun bearing and lube not getting where it needs to go. Imagine it like washing your hands with gojo while trying to keep them covered in oil.

PS: I would do oil, then through the TB, and its generally fine for the tank.. Just remember that if you have the stock fuel system you have a peice of garbage regulating fuel supply. Do each one of these steps one time every few months and not all at the same time.

I wouldn't recommend putting Seafoam in your oil at all, ever. Just keep up with your oil changes, use decent quality oil, and your car will be fine. G35's aren't prone to oil sludge issues and don't run hot. I honestly think the Seafoam-in-the-oil recommendation is just something to get people to buy more of the product. If you have massive deposits in your motor, you're probably better off leaving them there than doing something to dislodge them and get those deposits stuck in a place where they may inhibit oil flow to key components.

If you ever put it in the oil, better change the oil and filter soon afterwards. And then change it again once the oil starts looking black again, which maybe two miles or two thousand miles. But I wouldn't run the oil if it looks like black death.

Putting Seafoam in the vacuum lines or gas tank doesn't require changing oil or spark plugs or removing the cats. Yes, I have heard of some cars breaking loose carbon, stopping up the cat, and damaging the cat/and or engine, but this motor is not prone to do that.
