are you talking about a slight metal grinding sound? My car does this every morning after its been sitting for at least 12 hours. Start the car, put it in first, hit about 10mph then weird noise happens...If this is the noise you are referring to, it is the ABS doin a self check i believe.

How does it feel when your tranny changes gears and how many miles on it. I have heard about rear Axil clicks or that could be your gears grinding

If I rember Nissan had a recall to address a clicking in the rear hubs, they checked the rear hub bolt torque. replaced hubs and bolts in some instances it coverd my 03 and my sis 05 so I'm guessing it would have coverd your 04 you might see if the recall was done on yours.

2MUCH, you should be able to Google and find a video of the ABS self test and find out if that's your noise.

You have the infamous axle click. If you are a DIY guy it's easy to fix and will cost you a total of $7 for grease and a couple of hours for your time. Dealer wanted to charge me $400 to fix. Read through this thread.
