I personally share the common opinion that if you complain even once, you don't know what driving a stick shift is all about. So to me the 5AT would be out of the question, especially because you'll be out of only 2-3k and you'll be getting both the 6MT and the NAV.

However, there's no right or wrong answer; it's more of an age/experience related thing. The longer you've driven stick, the more likely you are to get tired of it esp. if you commute in heavy traffic.

You'll see people that swear at manual cars and others that swear by them. IMO as far as the G goes, 6MT is much more fun, but my best advice is to go and test drive one; then you'll actually see if it's something for you or not.

Yeah really. All I've ever owned has been manuals (BMW, Nissan) but I HAD to get a 5AT. I get stuck in so much traffic there's no way of getting a 6MT really. Sure every now and then I have an itch to drive a manual but when I'm stuck in bumper to bumper traffic I don't regret it at all. Now if I didnt have any traffic to deal with, I would have gotten a manual (however the 6MT just felt real notchy to me. Maybe I'm spoiled by the butter shifts of the BMW) . I guess I would get the short shifter kit if I had a manual anyways. As for now, I'll deal with the Auto and even in the twisties I can still have fun in the manual mode on an auto. Its a lot better tranny than other makers out there.

No regrets at all. I love the convenience of the auto.

Plus I feel that with the manumatic mode, I get the best of both worlds.

Re: 5 AT owners, sometimes do u wish u had a 6mt?

I had an AT sedan loaner for a day and felt that on shifts, the car was lunging and the tall shifter got in my way when reaching for the stereo buttons. The MT shifter is very short and out of the way.

This is my first MT car and I love it. Much more engaging and it's fun to practice blip-throttle downshifts before turns.

Oh and BTW dude, if you got the car FREE (parents, I assume), spend the scrilla and trade it in! You obviously have a little money to put those mods on, so it shouldn't take long to get $2k. Now the question is.....04 or 05?!?!

When I'm taking twisties? Yep (.5% of the time)
When I'm stuck on the strip, on a busy highway, or on the stop-and-go streets of Vegas? Nope. (95.5%)

Geo that's only 96%, what's the other 4?!??! =) JK

Sixfive, i agree the auto in MM mode is just like a manual except for the crisp shifts and numerous other things, and that's why i ONLY drive my car in MM mode, its a routine! I get in my car, turn VDC off everytime and i dont even realize, its like putting your light on at night to me and i always have to put it in MM, i wouldnt drive it any other way! People think the way i shift and hold a gear and everything that i drive a manual, but it just doesnt give you that pull on the highway or w/e, if i sat in 4th at 4k RPM and the coupe in 4th at the same lets say, the coupe has that instant power and torque!

Hey Martin, do you feel like you get less gas mileage while driving in MM mode? I always feel like I do. I haven't really written down my mileage after fill up on both modes but maybe it just seems like that.

Thanks.

Yea im always driving in MM mode too. Its just a habit cuz i like to have more control. Actually i have noticed the gas mileage is the same driving in MM than in D. But it also depends if you have a heavy foot or not. For me, i gotta gas up every 5 days.

Re: 5 AT owners, sometimes do u wish u had a 6mt?

I don't really wish I had an MT. If so I would have boaught one- just didn't want one. Wanted the convenience of the auto with the best of both worlds without sacraficing performance with the ability to control the gears when I want to. I felt like it was better suited for what I wanted than a 6MT.
Now if this car were just a weekend play toy, I probably would have bought the 6MT just for the added fun of the clutch- other than that, I saw no additional benefit.

Yea i can see your points. But for a person who is only 18 and never owned an MT, its just something that you wanna try. After driving one (after i got my G) after i got my G, I WANT ONE! I dont think 2-3k diff for a 6mt with NAV is rly bad? Am i being realistic with my calculations here?!

I gotta admit I kinda wish I had a 6mt, only thing held me back is the additional maintenance that comes along w/ having a manual transmission...ie. replacing clutch etc...

Silver/Graphite 5AT, Loaded minus Navi, clear corners/clearance, PIAA eXtreme whites all around. Z-Tube and K&N Drop In VERY SOON!!

Guys your forgetting the most important thing...when you go to a drag strip it is easier to hit your times consistently in a AT, that way you never break out and it is real hard to be beat......LOL j/k.
If your lucky you can have 2 cars, 1 AT and 1 MT.
