Shifting without using the clutch
Never tried shifting this way before but it doesn't sound like it would be safe for the tranny IMO. Ignore the negative comments, it wouldn't surprise me if over half the people on this forum never hit redline before........or even tried something performance related.
I do it on ocasion but not on purpose. I drive a Freightliner and i never use the clutch. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TYPE OF VEHICLE. If you shift at the right RPM yes it will shift without using the clutch and no harm done.
I shift so regularly in the Freightliner without a clutch I do it somtimes in the car. I DO NOT RACE OR POWER SHIFT. DO not do it.
So I guess the answer is yes you can do it, but there is no reason. Its not worth destroying your tranny!
If you do try it dont downshift its the hardest to do and most room for error!

IMO, if you have to ask, do it if you have a manu-mode auto or lots of money to replace broken parts.
Otherwise, go back to practicing on a beater Honda... it'll be cheaper to repair.

it's not a set RPM. it depends on the wheel speed and the gear you are going for.
agreed, i wouldn't advise LEARNING to do it on your G. i learned on a 87 S-10. once you get a GOOD feel for it, you can transfer your knowledge to other cars...but there's still a learning curve for that individual vehicle.
