Sweaty A/C smell

hey guys I am wondering what the problem might be and how much it would cost to fix this problem. Summer is finally here in Canada and every time I blast my A/C on, it smells like sweaty socks.

You've been running around all winter with your heater going and the windows up what would you expect? Change the cabin filter and run your windows down, an air freshener couldn't hurt either.

There's a YouTube video on how to do it. It's easy to find. Also, looks easy to do.

First - Check for sweaty socks in car, failing that here's the DIY video for cabin filter replacement:

it could be mold building up in the vent system. if you run the AC and don't run fresh air afterwards, i.e. just shut off the car after running the AC for a while, moisture collects in the system and starts to mold. smells like dirty rags or that smell you get off the plastic trays at fast food restaurants.

always try and run fresh air out for a while before you shut off the car. i've heard that if it gets so bad, it can get really $$$ to clean out the mold.

you guys should dry the AC out after each use.

You get condensation from using an AC so once you done using it (pulling up home or work) simply crank up the heat and turn on windshield defrost. This will run heater and AC at the same time and dry out the condensation. No moisture=> no bacteria=> no other growths=> no smell.
