What's the Best Oil For My Car?

Got about 3k miles until I should change the oil in my car. This will be my first time changing it, the guy who had it before me changed it about every 4-5k miles. What's the best oil to put in my car? Also, what are the best tires for my car, for a reasonable price? Thanks

There's a good bit of threads on this, so as always search is your friend.

I've heard good things about Castrol Full Synthetic German oil (or something along those lines). I've only had to do one oil change since owning my G but i've yet to get my hands on that stuff. I'm going to search a little harder for it next time I do a change. I used 5W 30 Castrol Full Synthetic since Walmart didn't have the German oil.

I got some Mobil 5w30 full synth for like 9$ a quart. I'll just keep using that, seems to be running real nice.

I think I've read that Mobil 1 has been decreasing the quality of their oil for a couple years now if I'm not mistaken. It's not longer a true full synthetic if I recall correctly.

I use the german castrol syntec 0W-30 in my car... there was a huge thread on my350z I believe about which oils have been proven (through oil analysis) to be the best for the VQ35 and the German Castrol 0W-30 was one of the top oils.

Where do you buy it at? I've only checked walmart but i'm guessing I need to go to an actually auto shop like auto zone or advanced auto parts.

I'm in Canada (Toronto) and I can find it at Wal-Mart... The german castrol syntec only comes in 0W-30 so if you're looking for 5w-30 that's the problem. On the 0w-30 castrol syntec on the back of the bottle it will say Made in Germany (as opposed to Made/Engineered in the USA)... that's the one you're looking for.

I actually found the link on my350z that I was talking about... REALLY LONG thread but *very* informative.

I have been with Mobil 1 for years and switch to Castrol synthetic in the gold bottle and I love this stuff. Runs smooth and seems the valve train in the engine is quieter. It's great stuff but just as expensive as Mobil 1.

if you have an 05-06 manual you may have oil consumption problems. If that is the case then you should stick with conventional oil and not go to synthetic. Synthetic is thinner causing it to leak more and also more expensive so if you have OC problems your getting hit twice....I use Castrol GTX

autozone is the only place I've seen that consistantly carries it.

Mobile 1 is **** for our cars. There's multiple threads on this and plenty of UOAs done as well.

I heard that Mobile 1 EP is better, but I wouldn't use that stuff in my car.

Amsoil, Redline, and Castrol. Stick with any of those and you'll be fine.

Castrol is easier to find locally. For German Castrol 0W30 make sure you check the back of the bottle to make sure that it says made in Germany. I found a good supply of those at Autozone.

If you can't get German Castrol or any of the other 2 and you don't want to order online.. then you can always get Castrol syntec or Castrol Edge. Both of those work great too.
