Pardon my ignorance, I have tons of work to do before doing this....
but seems to me the cost of modifying the wiring harness.... it might be better just to spend a little more money and get a standalone ecu?

Dude, i dont know where you are getting you info from but it is ALL WRONG. Doing an LS swap is NOT cheap so if the bargain route is what your after, you might as well move on now.
First this swap will run you $15-20k easily and if you are really good about cutting corners and saving money you may be able to do this for $12-13k. Its on par with doing a quality TT setup on the car.
Second, you WILL need a new transmission. You must use the T-56 that comes with the LS engine for several reasons: its gonna be a lot more expensive trying to have a custom bell housing made to fit the stock Z/G 6speed. Then you'd have to have the tranny built because the torque curve of an LS motor will surely bust it apart after a very short while if not immediately.
After having the stock tranny built, you have then buy a strengthened driveshaft because the factory nissan shaft would again snap like a twig under the torque. Hence why all the kits include driveshafts in their kits.
Additionally, and without insulting you, but I can tell from the content of your messages that you are FAR from the knowlege base/skill neccessary to complete this build in your garage, thus you NEED to have a shop do this swap for you to save you the money on the back end that you would surely spend. So now must include labor cost in your equation, there go that idea of $12k
Next you have to buy a stand alone or get the wiring harness installed. Either way, theres a bunch of tuning involved to get the motor and everything running properly and in concert with its new G35 home.
Oh and don forget the actual drivetrain (Engine & Tranny) that you must purchase which will run you about $5k used. And the $2k+ for the swap kit.....LOL this is no bargain option.

G35 ls swap
I'd like to chime in say hello to everyone, l am just finishing my ls swap g35 l can say this at first l was going to try n build it on a budget so l purchased a vehicle that was wrecked n parted it out for the motor as it stands lm about 400 ahead of were l started so my motor basically was free and even at that l have the best of everything on this build l will tell you now l have massive skills in welding fabrication and body n paint plus 15yrs automotive upholstery experience l did the entire car myself .
l don't go the cheap route either l had custom unique wheels made for this car this is not the first custom car lve built lve got more than 15 custom built vehicles of my own that lve built not to mention all the customers cars lve done l have close to 30k in parts in this car. Right now lm dealing with the immobilizer triggered so it wont fire up. But l replaced everything that is important on this vehicle because of the horsepower difference for safety Reasons steering rack ,wheel bearings, big brakes, all control arms front back upper n lower including camber arms, aluminum driveline, stainless exhaust, carbon fiber hood trunk doors grille mirrors A pillars, new windshield, covered dash in leather, changed gauge cluster, removed nav,cd,radio, replaced with 10.4 samsung s6, jdm a/c controller in upper glove box, recaro seats from 2023 Subaru ,covered headliner in suede, sparco suede steering wheel, blue floor lights, blue door lights,Stark Forged Wheels, the motor is a new crate 5.3 l tore apart installed corvette heads, btr red hot cam,btr valve springs, tall chrome valve covers powdercoated candy purple, trailblazer SS intake 92mm throttle body cable driven,ISR longtube headers,Y pipe 3in pipe to black widow muffler 3in to the 2.25tips,6 channel fosgate amp driving 6.5fosgate pro mids in doors 6.5 fosgate 3way in quarters 2way 6x9 fosgates in rear deck music plays through tablet then clarion electronic crossover, spectrum analyzer in shifter boot plate, the motor is accented in purple, wheels inside hoop is purple, lugnuts purple, inside of car on door panels are dark purple suede. I have not started on my trunk yet but it will look super clean and sharp as well. As soon as l get it to start up so l can move it out side to wash it l will take lots of pics to download. I'm into this build 6 months now
