ABS, VDC off, slip light problem solved
About a month ago I had a set of SPC upper control arms, rear camber kits, H&R sport springs and 25mm spacers installed and got the dreaded warning lights. The car drove and braked fine. Just didn't have ABS or traction control. The tech and I finally were able to get the time to try to solve this today so.....
He lets the rack down, clears the code and tells me to take it for a test drive while he washes up. I start off down the road, approach a stop sign and begin to brake normally and the ABS starts pulsing like I was on ice. He had to follow me home because I left my wallet there. So on the way, the ABS starts pumping here and there for no reason. Then, suddenly the wheel jerks to the left as though I hit a puddle. Scared the crap outta me. The brakes felt like they were locking up and I had to turn the car off and restart it so I could drive the last 1/2 mile to my house. Once I got there I explained to him what happened and he suggested I disconnect the battery for a few minutes. He said maybe the ABS unit had to reset or something. I tried that, test drove and still the same thing.
So then I said screw it. Took off the wheel, and removed 3 of the ABS sensor shims that come in the upper control arm kit. He had 5 on there. Took it for a test drive and everything is working like it did when it was stock.
I don't really hold him responsible because Infinity's aren't his specialty. In fact, this was the first time he'd ever done a mod like this. I trusted him though because he was a friend of a friend and had been wrenching on cars (mostly Mustangs) for 8 years. Plus it was a b*tch trying to get the feeler gauge in there.
So I guess having too much of a gap will make your ABS go crazy. BTW, when the brakes were acting up there were no warning lights or anything.
And the initial reason for the ABS, slip, VDC off lights ended up being the bracket that comes in the SPC kit was slightly bent. You couldn't even tell until we held it up next to the new one SPC sent us.
Sorry for such a long post but I'm so glad we got that taken care of. When your car doesn't work properly it's hard (for me) to focus on other things. Now all's well.

I agree, and hindsight had I known it was gonna cause me some headaches I would have but now that it's all working properly I'm happy. Especially because it saved me a boat load of money compared to the first quote i got. Besides, the one way to gain experience is by doing things you've never done.
