K&N replacement air filter opinions?

Hey all,

looking to replace my air filter soon and was going to go the standard route and pick up the $10-$15 ones, but then I saw the K&N one at Kragens for about three times the price and was wondering if anyone has used this and know if it's worth the extra money.

The K&N filter does flow more air but if that's going to be your only upgrade and you probably don't want to bother cleaning it every second oil change (time frame) just continue buying the throw aways.

Its cleanable, and "supposedly" adds a hp or 2 according to sites.

A lot of people get it with the ztube.

Not sure the K&N is worth the money unless you're running full throttle for more than 50% of your daily travel. There have also been many reports of people over-oiling their filters (apparently even after following the instructions carefully), which is easy to do if you're not careful, and the oil greasing up the MAF or O2 sensors, which can be expensive to repair.

I buy the Purolator ones, or even the Fram on this one (just not the Fram oil filters)... what's $6-10 every 12-13K miles?

Just another perspective.

Yea, I was seeing if it's worth it since it's cleanable. They're $36 on amazon with free shipping so just scoping out the options.

So I went ahead and bought the drop-in. My old filter was freakin' dirty. I don't think the last owner ever changed it. Anyways, the filter seemed a little loose when I closed up the air box. Is that normal? It wasn't loose to the point where it's moving it everywhere while I drive, but it didn't seem as tight as the OEM filter that was in there previously.

I have K&N in all three of my vehicles. Primarily for cost savings. I clean them every six months and never have to replace them.
