Any hard evidence on all the bs on the RP??? Also you really think fram makes a Nissan filter..please.....I would like to see something in print about the claims ????

Check the UOA's, RP is not "GOOD" in the VQ, it might be great in other engines but, in the VQ its mediocre and you can buy cheaper oils that perform better. Originally Posted by infinitlyfast

Their filters on the other hand are great.
Check out this thread, http://myg37.com/forums/engine-drive...otsa-pics.html
Yea and a purolator which you said was crappy is in that link too. The Purolator is a quality filter, I don't know who told you it was crap.

As I said try thicker oil, youll get more answers at the other forum I mentioned. Syntec 5W30, is quite thin, Try GC 0W-30 from Autozone. Its almost a 40wOriginally Posted by KingCobra
^ This isn't just a "whats the best brand" oil thread....I'm looking for something much more specific in regards to the issues our cars have and if theres any oil that is better in that situation

I recently picked up an 06 6MT, and my service guy (who has service my FX35 and G20 for years) told me that the "6MT [revup engines] tend to burn oil and that I should use regular oil because synthetics are thinner and will burn off faster." If you're having to add that much oil so often, you're just pissing money away with synthetic. Try using good ol' Castrol GTX dino oil and see if it helps. If not, you'll at least save money.

good advice on the dino oil...I would try the 15W40 Shell (this will not thin out as much when you engine gets hot) the thicker oil will not get past your top compression ring as much. try it. there are a few folks here with the same problem

So is the oil consumption problem confined to the 2005-07 Rev-Up motors with the 6MT? Is it not an issue on the cars with automatic transmissions?

That's the only G35s that came with the REVUP motors, ATs did not. If you have OC issues the weight/brand oil you use won't solve the piston ring issue. Using Dino oil for break in is smart, once your rings have seated after 3K miles using synthetic is better for your engine....cooler/cleaner!Originally Posted by dooscoop32

I have seen them all.
One dealer filled up oil before calling me in to see that no oil was missing, the second dealer overfilled it and sealed the dip stick with a plastic tie so i cannot check the oil and of course at the end of the test only 8mm was missing for 2000 miles.
So now I will try the following:
Cleaned the PCV valve, ordered an oil catcher to place between the PCV and intake manifold, added 1/4 of Lucas, 1/4 quart of high mileage 10W40 Castrol GTS, will not use engine break or downshift, will make sure the engine does not exceed 4000 rpm and will watch it every 500 miles.
Based on more test results I will decide what's next!
