If I calculated correctly, I averaged 20MPG today for a 200 mile trip. Is the tank 20 gallons?

That is what i am saying all the time, with G35 6MT is possible to get in steady speed and more less flat road, with no special hills a fuel consumption 29-32 in highway I would say, I think Shell V Power Nitro+ is best fuel for that purpose. I remember many drivers here are saying contrary. Then
1. Either they do not actually know how to drive economically on highway
2. Or their car is not ok condition( what kind oil to use in engine playes vital part on it).
It is time to learn to drive economically it you want to save some money.

Very little stop and go on the HWY in the morning(3am), and I did notice even with a moderate fluctuation of speed in the day(Noon) that in denser traffic i still get close to 30mpg because I think of the decreased wind resistance. In the morning commute im just about all by myself with a few cars dabbled in all other lanes. But in the Noon commute its fairly dense, but not stop and go, and i still manage 30mpg with lower speed avg.

Try doing a Higher speed on the HWY, make sure using Premium, and I use Full Syn for my oil. Thats really all I do.

Yes the tank is a max capacity of 20 gallons. Although i would be hard pressed to actually go through all 20 gallons.

I never run below the small fuel marker near the bottom of my G. They say it can stress the fuel pump when driven with too little fuel regularly. Plus gives me a buffer if i need to be somewhere and cant stop for gas immediately.

I have a 5AT W/ 3.69 final drive with sticky tires. So someone out there with a stock 6spd should probably get a bit better, esp with low rolling resistance tires.

The kind of oil has VERY little to do with highway mileage. I use ONLY 5w-30 coventional oil in my G and have consistently averaged over 30+ mpg on the freeway at freeway+ speeds (cruise control on, windows up, climate control on).

Highway mileage with synthectic oils may be .5 mpg better, but not more.

In town MPG is not what this car is good at. You'd need to drop a new rear end in to affect in town.

This is correct. I initially posted that using SNOW mode makes that car slower to accelerate and that will help take care of your lead foot, but the manual does say that you should only turn it on when there's actually snow on the ground. It affects the way power is sent to the wheels and will have you running in AWD all the time, instead of sending power only to the rear wheels for highway driving which is more fuel efficient.

Air pressure, a new air filter, good plugs, all play into good fuel economy. Also I like to think a good wash & wax reduces wind resistance! Ha

I've driven to Salt Lake City, Utah from So Cal before. I stopped in Misquite, Nevada to refuel and think I could've made it to St. George. That was my only refuel. The total trip is about 740 miles from my city. Mind you I have a lot of mods to the engine. CAI, light weight pulleys and flywheel, headers, test pipes dual exhaust from there and a NISMO clutch to go with with it. It's all in the way the car runs, I did do a couple of sprints above 100mph while I was out there too. For that drive I figure I was at about 22mpg, but I could be wrong. I've got about 134K miles on the motor and 152K on the car itself.

Later,

Ray

I've personally got 33 mpg on a single trip home from work before (downhill), but that's not a realistic way of measuring, cuz guess what? I got 16 on the way TO work (uphill). Ever heard of Florida?

Its flat here about 95% of the state, and if you live outside the city, you can literally drive for miles on the highway without stopping. Not interstate but regular 2-lane county roads. I drive on these on my days off if just for a relaxing drive.

IIRC I got this mpg shifting at about 2K rpm and coast the rest of the way at 60mph .

This is an evening ride to a small town 30miles away all hwy. 55mph speed limit.

Of course this is not everyone, and not an everyday occurence. But the car itself is capable of decent mpg.

Ftfy

I've actually gotten 38mpg on flat ground on a single trip (flats and downgrades actually) with low shifting and neutral cruises, but SoCal is very hilly, so I don't expect that regularly.
