Help--Purchasing my first ever G!
Help--Purchasing my first ever G!
Hey all, let me first say that I dont (yet) own a g35...but its been a car of my dreams for a while now....
This is my first time buying a g35, or any infiniti....I have helped my father and other family buy used cars before so I know some basic things to look for. I was hoping if there is anything specific I should ask or look for when purchasing a used G.
This would be my first car that I buy for myself....and well i dont have much to spend so I know i will end up with an 04-05....06(if im lucky
) definitely getting a coupe and definitely auto (
yea i know...i wish i knew how to drive stick
) with plenty of mileage on it (although under 80K).... Could someone help me out and tell me things to look out for?

i have a money pit and i made a sticker to prove it:

I would recommend getting a carfax on any car you plan to purchase. Might also take it to a reputable shop and have them give it a once over for any major issues. Also, if you can find a car with all documented service records, that would be a definite plus.
Check the tires - as new rubber on these cars are expensive.
Look in the engine bay for any leaking fluids and such.
Since you are buying an automatic, you don't need to be worried about the engines that had the oil consumption issues so that's good.
Keep in mind that the purchase price is only half the battle on these cars as they are a bit expensive to maintain - requires premium gas and depending on driving habits you can hope for maybe 18 -20 mpg. Insurance is a bit more expensive than other cars as well. Service at the dealership can be expensive so hopefully you have atrusted mechanic who can do the work for you cheaper.
Good luck in your search - it's a great car to drive and looks sexy as hell!

You are incorrect. OC is on MT Rev Up Engines...
Quoted from the TSB
Applied Vehicles:
2005 - 2006 G35 Sedan (V35) with M/T
2005 - 2007 G35 Coupe (CV35) with M/T
Thank you.

You may burn oil - all multi valve engines are more likely to burn oil - the additional valves create more areas for the oil to seep into the combustion chamber...
I am not saying your car doesn't consume oil - however the Oil Consumption issue is a M/T only. The TSB does not cover the automatic transmission - therefor you don't need to worry about it being an OC motor like you would if the original poster was looking for a 6MT.
