Unhappy Track Day Gone Bad - Oil Leak...

I was at Texas World Speedway this weekend for first track experience (HPDE) ever and sadly it didn't end too well.

But first let me say this, for all those who have never gone to any sort of track day are missing out big time. I am very impressed with my car's stock ability on the track even though I definitely didn't push my car to it's complete potential. I had a 2 day event totaling 8 driving sessions with an instructor but I was only able to complete the Intro session and half of the second session before my car started acting up. They are crediting me with one full day though. Let me repeat... tracking your car is a MUST for any car enthusiast and should atleast once in their cars.

As for what happened...about 3/4s into my second session I was flagged down to pit, apparently I began puffing out blue smoke. Everyone was very friendly and helped me find a potential problem. After getting the car jacked most of the under tray and exhaust was covered in oil. We couldn't find a specific point where it was leaking but I was told it was probably the valve cover. We found older oil around the same place and they said it couldve been a recurring problem which was aggravated after hard track use. I told them the dealership gave me a new short block (driven 6000 miles on new block) due to OC problems and they probably didn't install something exactly right.

I am going to take the car to the dealership ASAP but I want to ask everyone if I should take off the few minor mods that I have:

Mrev+ 5/16 Spacer
Z tube
Short Shifter.

^ I know they are all very minor but I'm not sure if any of those can have a valid case in voiding my warranty. Removing everything will be a pain in the *** and it will slow me down taking my car to the dealership. I have summer classes and its my daily driver...

Thanks for any help. BTW a video of my short track session is coming soon!

Do you have a good relationship with the service reps?

If no take it off, if yes keep it on

I'd remove the spacer and ztube, you don't want to give the dealer a reason to void any warranty work that can be done

Like others said, put it back to stock. You don't have that much to disassemble and it will be well worth the peace of mind knowing they can't say it was because of aftermarket parts. Oh and definitely don't mention anything about taking it to the track.

These kinds of threads are worthless without pics, especially if there's some sort of damage or malfunction involved.

Def do ztube and spacer, those are easy to remove. Your short shifter I would probably just leave.

Sucks about the leak, but at least it got caught before something worse happened.
