Looking to buy G35 - couple questions

Hi All,

My wife and I just got married and we're looking for a spare car to drive (might eventually be our daily driver). Since we're young and don't plan on having kids anytime soon, we are looking at G35 coupes.

We're looking for 2004+ G35s in AUTOMATIC (I can drive stick, but my wife can't. Plus if it ends up being our daily driver, this DC rush hour would be no fun to drive stick in).

My questions are:

1) I am reading about oil consumption. Does this effect AUTOMATIC G35s?

2) Are there any other problems/signs we should look for when we go test drive some used G35 automatics?

3) What year would you recommend from 2004-2007? Our budget is about $18,000.

Anything else I should know or look for before buying a G35?

Thanks all

nice to see youre looking at a proper car lol. first i know you said auto, but if you teach ur wife how to drive A. thats awesome and B. youll enjoy it more. But besides that heres my two cents:

1) the oil consumption problem is in any G that has the HR motor which came in the 07s and later.
2) Not much different then any other car, feel for clean and smooth shifts, get a good history, and just make sure you like the car ya know. Also id stay away fromt the 03s because they has some transmition issues (but more for the manuals)
3) with that price range youll have your choice of a great vehicle. id go for the a good 05. its older than the 06-07 so youll be able to get a good one with less miles. you wont have to worry about the oil consumption issue that you get in the later years and the interior was upgraded in 05.
i drive an 04 coupe and i love it. An 05 and later, the interior is a bit nicer and better put together IMO.
for a very thorough breakdown give this a look

hope this helps.

i drive an 04 coupe too and i love it. its auto also. 04 and 05 are really nice, but id look into an 06 if you can. not that much different, but they do have the projector headlights and the taillights look a little better. but the 04/05 are still very nice imo.

You need to buy the latest model you can afford with the lowest mileage. With the ATs you won't have issues with OC! (oil consumption) It's also advisable you buy a car with service records dating back to time of purchase. Make sure you get a CARFAX you don't want a car that's been damaged. You can probably afford an '07 coupe with your budget, find a nice one and enjoy....

Thanks all do all G35s have some sort of traction control button or something? I know some RWD luxury cars have them.. to turn on while in harsh rain or snow?

I don't really plan on driving the car in snow too much.. and if we do drive it in snow, we'll get some snow tires.

yes they do. in the 03-04 its located next to your trunk release button... not sure if that changes in the later years
